(Latin for “In the Year of Our Lord) Who’s ‘Lord’?

4 Why are we in the Year 2019? The standard calendar we use today around the world is the Christian calendar Also called the “Gregorian Calendar” So, Year 0 (or 1) is the birth of Christ, the beginning of Christianity We use 1 calendar internationally to AVOID CONFUSION Are there other calendars besides this one?

7 Remember! BCE = BC CE = AD They are the same thing!!

8 What about B.C. and A.D.? Why don’t we just use BC and AD?
You can, but most historians don’t. Saying AD is saying that Jesus Christ is your Lord. AD means “In the Year of Our Lord” Not everyone is Christian (especially historians)

BCE = Negative numbers CE = Positive numbers CE starts at Year 0 (or 1) For example: 100 BCE is the same as -100 100 CE is the same as +100 How many years are between 100 BCE and 100 CE? Find the range
