16 GCISD Portrait of a Graduate

17 Lead 2021 LEAD stands for Leading Excellence – Action Driven. It is a bold plan that impacts every aspect of GCISD – from instruction and technology to facilities and operations – through four core objectives and seven specific strategies. More than 300 stakeholders, including students, parents, community members, teachers and administrators, were involved in the design of this 10-year plan, which will guide the progress of GCISD through the year Implementation began in the school year with a focus on establishing a strong foundation for the work to come.Key components of the plan include Personalized Learning Plans for students, transition from a teaching platform to an instructional learning platform, relevant and resourceful technology to expand student resources, college and career readiness for all students, and enhanced responsibility of citizenship in our local, state and global societies.

18 Personalized Learning
There is great power in personalizing the learning process for our students. Personalized learning places an emphasis on teaching students how to set and chart progress toward defined goals. Each student will work collaboratively with teachers to set and analyze their progress on these goals. GCISD believes success occurs when students are involved in the goal setting process, engaged in reflective conversations, and gather evidence of progress toward goals. We will be setting and reflecting on our goals.

19 STEM Engineering We do many engineering challenges throughout the year. Most of these are correlating to the topics we are covering in other subject areas. We also try to incorporate as many 2nd grade skills as we can into our engineer challenges as review. We use the Engineering Design Process in all of our engineering work. In GCISD we define STEM-Science, Technology, Engineering and Math-as a curricular program that integrates the concept of STEM across core content areas. Our program has a strong emphasis on engineering and design thinking. Students use the lens of STEM by utilizing an engineering design process in all aspects of learning. STEM in GCISD provided a rigorous pathway that inspires students to problem solve, innovate, take risks, create, work collaboratively, design, communicate effectively, and take ownership of their learning by making authentic science, technology, engineering, and mathematics across content areas in preparation for future college and career opportunities that will empower them to envision solutions for global issues.

We will keep track of the books we read in class on the form and any books you finish at home make sure to add to the form. When they finish the challenge their name gets turned into the district and they will receive a special award during the awards ceremony.
