1 Plant and animal cells 2 Specialised cells 3 Microscopes 4 Tissues, organs and organ systems 5 Organ donation 6 Cell division 7 Revision/Test Specification – GCSE AQA Biology Teaching from Sept 2016 onwards Spec Reference 4.1 Topic Cells Lesson Plant and animal cells Sequence 1 of 7 Key Words;  Animal, plant, nucleus, cell wall, cell membrane, living, non-living, cell wall

3 Lesson Objectives Lesson Competency (Level 1-3) Proficiency
Mastery (Level 7-9) 1 To recognise and label a diagram of animal and plant cells To describe the differences between animal and plant cells To create a labelled model of animal and plant cells with functions of each organelle

4 What do you think the key words are for todays lesson?

5 What are these pictures of?

6 Cells What cells would you find in a human?
What cells would you find in a plant?

26 Game Over!!!

27 Lets try and compare our cheek cells to an onion cell!
What is a microscope and how does it work? Lets try and compare our cheek cells to an onion cell!

28 What is the difference between each cell?
Safety! The light bulb will get hot! (Obviously do not touch it) Task: Examine each different slide under the microscope and note down sketches of what you have seen. Can you compare the cells?

29 Electron Micrographs In order to get more detail than a normal light microscope, you will need to use an electron micrograph. They magnify objects up to half a million times bigger by using a beam of electrons to produce an image on a fluorescent screen.
