A transformation in education
12/1/2019 7:31 PM A transformation in education Meet the individual needs of each student Improving learning outcomes Equity and inclusiveness We live in an amazing time of technological progress. Every aspect of our lives is being shaped by this digital transformation. However, with transformation comes disruption. There's growing concern over job growth, economic opportunity, and the world we are building for the next generation. So the real question is how can technology create more opportunity not for a few but for all. Addressing that question is core to Microsoft's mission, to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. This is not just a set of words for us, but the thing we care deeply about. Microsoft's success is measured by others' success. We live in an amazing time of educational progress too. Over the past few years we’ve been experiencing a fundamental and core learning shift. From passive understanding of information to active participation, the way in which educators teach and assess, and how students learn. How students and teachers capture content, use information and share knowledge are all rapidly changing. We are under no illusion that technology alone is driving this education transformation. Dedicated administrators, great teachers, motivated students, involved parents and communities are the ones changing education. Technology is merely a tool to empower their creativity, their ingenuity. Teachers are tasked with creating the conditions needed to allow students to ask good questions and research and apply answers instead of defining the problem and giving them the answer. Although technology integration may be desired, it is often secondary concern to teachers, especially for teachers just getting their footing. Given these expectations, teachers want technology that functions well in the classroom that makes their lives simpler and sparks student creativity. Educational opportunity must be inclusive of everyone, not just a select few. This includes students with disabilities and different learning styles. All students must be given an opportunity to pursue their own dreams. © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

A platform to build new worlds and 21st century skills
Minecraft: Education Edition Foster creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving Safe game environment for project-based experiences Promote computational thinking and creative coding with Code Builder for Minecraft Key message: Minecraft: Education Edition – the popular game now tailored for education If you don’t know what Minecraft is like, ask a nine-year-old, Minecraft is… A game about breaking and placing blocks, where players work together to create wonderful, imaginative things One of the most popular video games in history that transcends all platforms (PC, console, mobile) and appeals to all players regardless of age, demographics, or geography Can be played alone, with friends in the same room, or with other creators around the globe on community-run servers Student engagement Collaboration Creative exploration Tangible learning outcomes Expanded with example: Microsoft has made Minecraft Education Edition so easy to deliver through the new platform. It's now popular with lots of people. Those with kids already understand Minecraft as a game, but it's important to understand how it's being used in classrooms for all types of subjects. One example is from a school in Seattle where they are using Minecraft to teach about conservation and river mechanics. The teacher there got inspired by an ecosystem recovery story and built a 3D model of the Elwha River valley and used that to help kids understand how knocking down two early 1900-era dams would benefit the ecosystem. From there, kids were encouraged to build their own rivers with all the basic elements of source, flood plains, tributaries, etc. Working in teams of three, they excavated and constructed their rivers.

Work together in a single hub
12/1/2019 Work together in a single hub Microsoft Teams for school communication and collaboration Collaborate in a hub built for the way students, faculty, and staff really work Stay connected with teachers in personal learning communities to share best practices Easily share information with staff on school-wide initiatives and professional development plans Come together in a team for group or project- based activities, like school student groups or events Key message: One example of enabling teamwork out of many is Microsoft Teams Microsoft Teams is a hub for teamwork in Office 365 for Education, and we recently introduced new classroom experience with Teams. In Q3 CY2017, education customers will be able to work together in three new types of teams built for the way teachers, students, and staff collaborate – Class, PLC, and Staff. (Class) Microsoft Teams gives teachers a single digital hub to manage a more connected and collaborative classroom experience for their students. School Data Sync saves teachers time by automatically creating Classes and keeping student rosters up to date. Class Notebooks are built into every Class, allowing teachers to easily organize their lesson plans and provide personalized learning support for each student. Teachers can also quickly create, review, and grade Assignments all without leaving Teams. Class integrations with Office 365 and apps like Flipgrid, Busuu, and Kahoot! mean students can create and collaborate anytime, anywhere. And with persistent conversations, teachers and students can organically share feedback to create a more supportive and engaging learning environment. (PLC) Teachers can connect regularly with their peers and continue their own development through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in Teams. PLCs automatically come with PLC Notebooks so teachers can share best practices and collaborate on lesson plans to improve the academic performance of their students. With persistent conversations, teachers have a collective history of their discussion and content to keep everyone up-to-date even as new teachers join the team. In addition to having easy access to Office 365 apps they use every day, teachers can customize their PLC to keep the resources they need right at their fingertips. (Staff) Staff teams allow school administrators and teachers to share information and work together school-wide initiatives. With Staff Notebooks built in, staff can publish school policies for the whole team to access or create individual professional development plans. With persistent conversations and integration with Office 365 apps, staff can leverage the same powerful tools and connected learning experiences they create for their students for their own collaboration. And of course, education customers can always create a team to work together on any project-based or team-based activity, such as organizing after school student groups. Schools can leverage the integration with Office 365 services to coordinate events and keep track of team files right in the app. Since every Team is backed by Office 365 Groups, schools can even extend their conversations to their broader communities through Yammer or Outlook. © 2013 Microsoft Corporation. Think of these a bit as the equivalent to Microsoft 365 Enterprise (aka Secure Productive Enterprise) for education, but it’s not an exact match to it as Microsoft has added some education-specific products and other tools. They are the cross platform offering, bringing together Office 365 A3 and A5 offerings with EMS and Windows, as well as Minecraft: Education Edition. What’s important to note is that there are two new plans. Both plans include the server and CAL benefits that our education customers should be used to. You get the productivity server and CALs as well as System Center rights. Microsoft has rebranded the current Office 365 plans. What is now known as Office 365 E1 and E5 will be named Office 365 A1 and A5. For Office, Microsoft is losing the E construct in education that commercial offerings follow, and moving to an A construct for education. If your customer has Office 365 E1 or E5 they will see it rebranded to A1 and A5 in October. The current free offering is A1, and the current E5 offering is A5. In the middle, you’ll see we’ve introduced a new bundle, Office 365 A3. The intent is a mid-level offering to offer those customers that are buying Pro Plus and advanced security management. Microsoft wants a competitive price point that offers more security and functionality than our mid price point but not quite the A5 functionality. How Microsoft is modernizing EES to support cloud-first offers
Shifting qualifying products to Education Platform Products Eliminating complex calculations for “full-time equivalent” (FTE) staff Simplifying user definitions to streamline license count Enabling greater flexibility to adjust at anniversary Expanding student use benefits The biggest things Microsoft is going to be modernizing, and the greatest changes you’ll experience in October, is to shift the qualifying products. Some of the key ways Microsoft is modernizing is changing the qualifying products’ name to Education Platform Products, and changing the qualifying products to be all online services. Software is no longer offered as qualifying products. Microsoft is completely shifting to OLS as the way customers will come into EES. Microsoft is eliminating the calculation of full time and part time staff and shifting to a per user model. Microsoft won’t have partially counted part-time faculty or staff or students, but a 1:1 per user model. Also streamlining definitions to work with the shift in licensing count.
27
Eliminate complex calculation & simplifying user definitions
Today Complex calculation of “full-time equivalent” staff October 2017 Simple 1:1 count of “knowledge workers” 4,000 Total employee count 4,000 Total employee count 2,000 full-time employees (FTE) 3,700 Knowledge Workers Knowledge worker: Any employee (including a student employee), contractor, or volunteer who uses a product or qualified device for the benefit of the institution or within the user’s relationship with the Institution. + 600 part-time faculty / 3 300 Light users (covered by free SKU) The second thing Microsoft will change in EES is the complex calculation to count full- and part-time staff for the organization-wide requirement. Any user that is considered a knowledge worker will have to be counted. This is part due to how Microsoft provisions online services, as there is a need to count all users who will use the products. On the left is an example of the world today, with an org wide count of 4,000 users, which consists of part-time and full-time workers. Today that counts as 3,400 users. In October, does that mean everyone has to be counted? Not necessarily, as we do have the free SKU for the light users that don’t need full coverage as they don’t fit the knowledge worker definition. In this scenario, you see the new count is at 3,700 users if you account for the light users using the free SKU. Extra: Going from a formula based calculation to a per user model Organizations will now only have to count knowledge workers and all other users will be counted as light users. There is no cost for Light users, as they will be covered by a free SKU. Knowledge worker is defined by: Any employee (including a Student employee), contractor, or volunteer of or for the Organization who uses a Product or Qualified Device for the benefit of the institution or within the user’s relationship with the Institution. For the benefit of the organization is not defined – it is subjective and will require assessment by the LSS / Partner and Organization. An organization count may change due to the counting Talk about how Microsoft will support the change in user count + 1,000 full-time staff + 400 part-time staff / 2 Per user model increased count by 300 3,400 Total paid FTE 3,700 Total paid FTE

Improve test scores and cognition
12/1/2019 Improve test scores and cognition Windows Ink and Digital Inking Windows 10 and Office provide a premier inking experience for better learning outcomes tactile pen-to-paper motion has been shown to be a huge part of learning* Pen use over keyboard improves conceptual application, studies indicate that diagramming one's thinking before solving a science problem leads to a 25%-36% higher score Windows Ink workspace helps show what a digital pen can do when you bring it close to the screen or tap a button Pen and touch instantly, edit and then replay - streamline creating and editing by simply picking up your pen to instantly annotate and highlight text Rewind and replay the sequence of mark-ups from others - move back and forth to watch thinking in action. Pre-populate content to reveal at your own pace only what's important Key Message: Windows 10 and Office provides a premier inking experience better than pen-to-paper, resulting in better learning outcomes. Research has shown that a huge part of learning is the tactile pen-to-paper motion. Studies indicate that diagramming before doing key thinking processes leads to a 25-36% higher scores in math and science. (The Design of Future Educational Interface, 2013 S. Oviatt) Fast action. Quickly capture notes and turn ideas into action with Windows Ink. Instantly create easy-to- manage checklists, write down reminders that will show up across your devices, and jot down a flight number to immediately bright up the status of the flight. It’s also quick and easy to bring up space (like sticky notes to drawing pads) for your pen to work – you don’t even need to log in to start inking. Pen and touch power. Create with amazing speed when you combine pen and touch working together. Use natural two-handed coordination when working with drawings, like adjusting the thickness of a line or bringing up a digital ruler so you can trace along the straight edge, just like on paper. Awesome with Office. Inking is extra awesome with Office apps. You can pen edits and add notes to Word docs as easily as marking up a hard copy. When you’re working with others, Windows can record the notations from colleagues, allowing you to replay the step-by-step sequence in their thought process, including math calculations, for better understanding and collaboration. Instant inking - Streamline editing documents by simply picking up your pen and using it to instantly annotate and highlight text. Ink Editor - Use ink intuitively to edit documents directly in Word. Strike through words to delete them, circle text to select it, and automatically snap highlighter ink to text. Ink Replay - Rewind and replay the sequence of mark-ups made by others to better understand their thought process. OneNote Ink Math Assistant - Handwrite an equation, then convert it into text and learn the steps to solve it. And teachers have reported great things from their experience, like Scott Bricker, Director of Educational Technology who says, "OneNote is a complete game changer for schools where digital ink allows students to use handwritten notes on the device for class lectures, completing worksheets printed to OneNote, or even sketching art work into their portfolio, just to mention a few uses. Our program would not be where it is without the use of OneNote and digital ink on our Windows devices.“ Scott Bricker, Director of Educational Technology at Santa Margarita Catholic High School Other research: Pens are making a high-tech comeback - INTERFACES V LEARNING PROCESS &DocSet=2 Computer interfaces and their impact on learning &DocSet=2 Computer interfaces and their impact on learning - print version - Computer interfaces and their impact on learning - screen version - Touch Tablet Browsing Comparison Whitepaper &DocSet=2 Cost of Tablets in the Enterprise &DocSet=2 * Touch device with digital pen required for inking © 2013 Microsoft Corporation. Accelerate creative ideas
12/1/2019 Accelerate creative ideas Intelligent tools in Office increase focus on what matters Easily create amazing presentations with QuickStarter and Designer in PowerPoint Create professional-quality animations in one click with Morph Visualize live or geographic data with new capabilities in Excel Kickstart the writing process with Researcher in Word and add reliable sources with properly formatted citations Create interactive web-based lessons, project recaps, newsletters, and more—right from a phone, tablet, or browser with Sway New features in Office 365 bring what we call “intelligence” to the programs that teacher and students are familiar with, making it easier for them to focus on what matters – teaching and learning. From easily creating amazing presentations with QuickStarter in PowerPoint to visualizing data in new ways with Maps in Excel, we are continuing to reimagine what it means to be productive in and out of school. New intelligence features in Office apps include: Maps in Excel enables you to transform geographical data into a high-fidelity visualization within a few steps. Maps help you identify insights, trends and opportunities in your data, in organizations, classrooms and at home. Powered by Bing Maps, Excel Maps enable anyone to create data visualizations through maps that were often only possible before with the help of technical experts or licensing agreements. QuickStarter for PowerPoint provides you an outline and starting point for building your presentation quickly. Just type in a topic and QuickStarter will return a suggested list of starter slides that you can easily pick and choose from. Once you've narrowed down your proposed outline, QuickStarter will then generate and pre-populate those slides based on content and images found through Wikipedia. QuickStarter for Sway works similar to PowerPoint. You start with a topic, and QuickStarter will recommend content and images from Wikipedia to get you started. If you decide to include suggested text/image(s), QuickStarter will include a citation and at the end of the Sway, list all the references used. You are then able to easily re-organize content and add thoughts to make it your own. Text enhancements is a new functionality powered by PowerPoint Designer, a cloud powered design engine that allows anyone to create high-quality, professional slides within seconds. While our first release introduced design recommendations based on photos added to presentations, text enhancements takes your bulleted text up a notch, providing multiple design recommendations, right alongside your slide, and helping you make visually impactful presentations in a fraction of the time. © 2013 Microsoft Corporation. Enhance independence, efficiency, and engagement
12/1/2019 Enhance independence, efficiency, and engagement Controls, settings, and assistive technologies in Office and Windows Consume content independently with assistive technologies, ease of access settings and Learning Tools in Office and Windows to aid usability and comprehension Students create confidently and efficiently with intuitive, keyboard navigable controls such as Windows 10 keyboard shortcuts, Tell Me, Researcher, Editor, and Designer Collaborate inclusively using Accessibility Checker and Automatic alt-text to help create accessible content, automatic translation/captions with Skype and screen- friendly co-authoring features Staying organized becomes efficient and paperless with Office Lens and OneNote, now enhanced to support students with learning or visual challenges Find out more at microsoft.com/accessibility Key Message: Microsoft accessibility tools supports students work independently, efficiently and confidently in a format that best suits them. Inclusively designed tools enable multiple means of representation, action, expression and engagement in diverse classrooms We can talk about 4 different areas of accessibility: consuming content, creating content, sharing/collaborating and communicating and finally organization. We offer new ways that help students work independently, efficiently and confidently in a format that best suits their needs. When we think about an inclusive classroom, we think about ways to make every student’s experience as rich, appropriate and effective as possible. We are constantly looking for ways to keep the content and access to all content and materials, that are as close to their peers as possible. For example The new Editor feature in Word and Outlook for PCs can help students with dyslexia write more easily and with more confidence. A new context menu design gives students synonyms alongside suggestions, and can also have suggestions read aloud. This aids comprehension and help them choose between similar-looking suggestions. Also, enhancements to Office spell checkers give students with dyslexia better suggestions to correct misspellings and significantly reduce how often they get “No Suggestions”, especially when the typed word looks very different from the right word. These enhancements help reduce the energy students spend for “low-level” processing like spelling, and frees up “mental desk space” for the “higher-level” cognitive tasks involved in writing. Find accessibility issues easily using Accessibility Checkers in Office for PCs, Macs and Online Apps, easily discoverable next to Spelling Checker in the Review tab of most authoring applications. © Microsoft Corporation. Support more inclusive classrooms
Microsoft Learning Tools Key message: Learning Tools has an immersive reader feature that can help improve people’s reading skills, including people with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, emerging readers or a combination of the broad range of unique student abilities. The feature is available in the OneNote desktop app, Word Desktop, OneNote Online, Word Online, Office Lens, and Edge browser for ePub files. The immersive reader feature helps educators create more inclusive classrooms. And, students often have more success when they can de-clutter screen views, animations and background images. It helps promote concentration and aids in comprehension, such as: A Read Aloud feature reads text out loud with simultaneous highlighting improves decoding, fluency, and comprehension while sustaining focus and attention. A Text Spacing feature optimizes font spacing in a narrow column view to improve reading fluency for users who suffer from “visual crowding” issues. A Syllabification feature shows the breaks between syllables to improve word recognition and decoding. A Parts of Speech feature supports instruction and improves writing quality by identifying verbs, nouns, and adjectives. To access these new Learning Tools in Word Online or OneNote Online, go to the View menu and click Immersive Reader. In addition, Learning Tools for Word 2016 has Learning Tools built into Read Mode. The Immersive Reader features help everyone on any device improve their reading skills, including those with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, emerging readers or a combination of the broad range of unique student abilities. Learning Tools for Word Online and OneNote Online now available, plus new languages on February 27, 2017 (see more here: Learning Tools are for everywhere you need to read (see more here: The research about reading identifies three separate reading skills: decoding, fluency, and comprehension. (see more here: We talked about how impactful the Learning Tools are… We thought why can’t you use them everywhere? Learning Tools are moving beyond the OneNote desktop app Coming to OneNote Online, Word Online and now in Microsoft Edge with the Creators Update For anything you make or find on the web, built-in reading and writing tools improve learning outcomes for all students A reference point that reinforces the importance of merging the technology with the way kids work is Cal Armstrong, who tells us, “Keyboards get in the way of creativity and Windows 10 on a pen-based tablet is an ecosystem that finally takes all the advantages of paper and makes it more effective, collaborative, and efficient. Inking, either on Edge or OneNote, not only makes student thinking visible, it captures, stores and distributes their learning for their, and my, convenience.” Cal Armstrong, Mathematics Teacher, Appleby College, Canada Improve comprehension and reading speed with Microsoft Learning Tools features by reducing visual crowding, highlighting and voicing of text, and breaking words into syllables. Encourage independent reading across devices in OneNote, OneNote Online, Word, Word Online, Office Lens and Microsoft Edge. Build confidence for emerging readers in more than 45 languages.

Introducing Microsoft Teams in Office 365 for Education
12/1/2019 Introducing Microsoft Teams in Office 365 for Education Create modern collaborative classrooms Easily manage your class with always up-to- date student rosters from School Data Sync Engage students and personalize learning through persistent conversations, video, and voice Distribute, collect, and grade assignments without ever leaving the Teams app Create and share content as a class with familiar Office apps like OneNote, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Customize your classroom with integrations from education software developers like busuu, Canvas, Flipgrid, and Kahoot! Key message: Office 365 for Education is a complete, intelligent, and highly secure service supporting excellence in teaching and learning. It offers a broad and deep toolkit for content creation, collaborative classrooms, and personalized learning. Microsoft Teams is a hub for teamwork in Office 365 for Education, and we recently introduced new classroom experience with Teams. Classroom experiences make Teams a digital hub for teachers and students by adding features specifically designed for teaching and learning. Teachers can now manage their entire classroom workflow in Teams. They can easily create classes with automatically populated student rosters from their school information system, share files and teaching materials, make announcements, divide the class into project groups, and distribute, collect, and grade assignments. To ensure schools can continue to provide safe and productive learning experiences for their students, we’ll also be introducing a new set of moderation controls for education customers later this year. Teachers will be able to delete inappropriate or offensives posts made by students or even mute a student for a select period of time. These new features add to the controls available in Teams today that allow IT Admins or team owners to manage the types of interactions and content users can share within Teams. Existing controls apply to visual content use such as emojis, gifs, and memes and the ability to create or modify teams and channels. © 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
