Institute for Co-operative Education Industrial Experience Option (INEX) Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering New Graduate Student Orientation -My name is Stefanie Corona. I’m the Coordinator of Student Learning and Professional Development at the Institute for Co-operative Education. I’ve been an active member of the INEX team for several years and I’m looking forward to sharing information about this option with you today. Thank you for the invitation. 2 INEX Opportunity to add value to your academic program by gaining practical experience in a field relevant to your program of study Registered in MEng or MApCompSc course-based in Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science (Building, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Information Systems, Mechanical, Quality Systems, Software Engineering or Computer Science)  MEng Aerospace or Environmental Engineering students are not eligible Thesis-based students are not eligible  Securing a work term is not guaranteed -The Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science offers this option in collaboration with the Institute for Co-operative Education. -If you are a thesis student in Computer Science or Software Engineering, this presentation does not apply to you. -In 2017, we made significant changes to this option. If you have visited our website in the past and/or talked to friends about INEX, please make sure you have accurate information by reviewing the updated content on the INEX webpage.

3 INEX versus Co-op Functions like regular Co-op programs with several exceptions: It has a different application process Graduate students obtain 9 academic credits once all work term academic requirements are completed satisfactorily May complete 1 work term only

5 Eligibility and Policies
Have completed a minimum of 8 credits before the work term begins Must be classified as having full-time status Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4 throughout your time enrolled in the Industrial Experience option Cannot take a leave of absence prior to the work term Proficient in either English or French. Students who are weak in French must be willing to do work terms outside of the province of Quebec.

6 Eligibility and Policies
Cannot take a course during the work term Cannot rescind an accepted job offer. A student that rescinds an accepted job offer will be immediately withdrawn and will not be eligible to re-apply to the program in a future admission term. Will be enrolled by the Co-op office in the ENCS 6931 course (worth 9 academic credits) during the work term

7 Eligibility and Policies
Students should consult their respective Graduate Program Director or Graduate Program Assistant for any advising on academic matters. The Co-op office does not provide advising on academic matters. It is the student's responsibility for knowing the rules, regulations, policies and deadlines in the graduate calendar. The Co-op office is not responsible should students encounter any difficulties registering for academic courses, paying tuition and fees and/or applying for graduation.

Formal admission application forms will be available for work terms in Summer 2020, Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 as of September 2019 for eligible students. -If Fall 2019 is your first semester at Concordia then you cannot apply for INEX formal admission in September 2019. -These numbers were used as the admissions committee reviewed applications in Fall This was for work terms in Summer 2019, Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 combined. 2 Mechanical Engineering 2 Mechanical Engineering 2 Industrial Engineering 3 Information Systems Security

9 Work Term Criteria Paid Minimum 35 hours a week 12 to 17 weeks
If the student is currently working at the company, the internship must be with a different department and supervisor The student cannot be supervised by a family member. A graduate student must be supervised by an experienced engineer or computer scientist during the work term. The internship must be in an office setting with a physical address (remote/virtual/home-based company opportunities are not approved)

10 Fees Obliged to pay Co-op fees in addition to regular tuition and fees
Non-refundable Fees will begin upon admission and the last fee will be charged during the work term Graduate students pay 4 fees of $ in addition to their regular tuition and fees including the 9 academic credit course (i.e. 4 x $ = $766 plus regular tuition and fees including the 9 academic credit course) -This is to cover in part the administrative costs particular to Co-op.

If you cannot register it is because the registration deadline has passed or registration has reached full capacity (95 students maximum).
