2 Western English Language Centre Global Summer Program 2018 Pre-Departure Orientation

3 The Western English Language Centre
The official language school at Western University WELC will challenge you to excel both linguistically and culturally.

4 Arrival Airport pick-up has been arranged from the Toronto International Airport and the group will be driven directly to the Huron University College residence at Western University Representatives from Huron and WELC will greet the group at residence Short orientation with the residence staff and WELC

5 First Day of Classes Orientation & classes will start on Monday, July 3th, 2018 at 9:30 am Students will be picked up from residence at 9:00 am to walk over to the Faculty of Education Upon arrival, students will go to the Community Room (Room 1139) to pick up a welcome package and to have new student orientation Lunch will be provided Classes will start after the orientation

6 Summer Program 18 hours of English class per week 2 instructors
Learn all 4 language skills in business settings– reading, writing, listening and speaking A focus on communication skills with practice of language skills and vocabulary inside and outside of the classroom Interact with Canadian and international students Complete a final project

16 Residence rooms are equipped with the following:
bed frame and mattress (single)   bed linens desk and chair   closet or wardrobe   mirror   drapes or blinds dresser with drawers   wastebasket   corkboard   bookshelves or wall shelving

Bring a plug adapter to use your dryer from Korea Cooking Area There will be kitchen inside each residence

Student leaders in residence Available to help at any time Organize activities and events in residence for all students

19 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi access will be available to you in your residence at Huron and anywhere on campus.

Personal Items to Bring Valid Passport Clothing for the different seasons Something personal from home (music, pictures, books, movies, special food items, etc.) to help you feel comfortable as you settle in

Other Things You May Want to Bring Medications you may need A credit card A long-distance phone card A plug adapter OR a transformer for using electricity in Canada if you are bringing electrical appliances

22 Shopping There are several shopping malls close to the university and within a short bus ride. WELC will provide you with a local map when you arrive. Cherryhill Village Mall Masonville Mall WhiteOaks Mall Westmount Shopping Centre Shopping Downtown London Richmond Row is London's most interesting and innovative shopping district with over 200 businesses catering to your every need whether you're looking for things to buy, something to do (including live night club entertainment, symphonic music, theatre, or countless multi-cultural events and festivals in Victoria Park), fine dining and casual restaurants.

24 Supermarkets There are many different kinds of supermarkets to choose from in London, offering a wide variety of food and household products. You will be able to find Korean food in most supermarkets. You will cook yourself at your residence.

28 Health Insurance Health coverage will be provided by Guard.Me and students will receive their insurance card upon arrival.

29 Transportation Access all of London with the convenient LTC pass with unlimited trips around the city everyday.

30 Recreation Centre Full access to the top of the line recreation centre on Western campus. Classes taught in the class include Pilates, Kickboxing, Cycling and Zumba. Drop in recreation includes Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball and Futsal.
