Formal Literary Analysis
Reflections on Your Compositions
2
Objectives Students will understand how to interpret an AP 9-point Rubric. Students will be able to articulate the three essay types that will show up on the AP Literature and Composition Exam in May. Students will refresh on identifying parts of the sentence, understanding the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs, differentiating between direct objects and objects of the preposition, and identifying how all of those components contribute to the active or passive “voice” of the sentence. Students will reflect on their writing and process instructor feedback.

Perspective In Darfur, the Sudanese government has killed approximately 300,000 non-Arab people in the name of ethnic cleansing. The genocide is still ongoing. Today, some people living on the Navajo Reservation do not have access to running water. Many have to haul in water to bath, cook, and wash. We have a classroom. We are not undergoing explicit ethnic cleansing. We have running water in this school. You all are here with the ability to read this. You have the opportunity to receive an education. In five years, most of you will not remember this day. You will not remember this grade. You will move on with your lives; and this here, this moment, will fade into the past. You will make it through this.
