1 CASHS Class of 2023 Scheduling Night

2 Scheduling timeline CAMS Students Move-in students
Initial informational meetings will be held at each middle school in early February 2019 (February 6: CAMS South & February 8: CAMS North) Students will receive paper scheduling form Those students who are recommended for Honors level courses based on PVAAS data will receive letter(s) Select core classes, and choose top 6 elective options Return forms to team teacher by TBD Early March, students will input course requests into Sapphire—Students will PRINT A COPY TO BRING HOME Move-in students Register at the district admin office in June 2019 Counselors will contact you over the summer to schedule courses

3 Points to consider when making course selections:
What are my future college/career goals? Be aware of College Admission Requirements What knowledge do I need to have in order to set myself up for success in College or the Workforce or the Military? Do I plan to be an athlete in college? Be aware of NCAA Eligibility Requirements What responsibilities do I have in addition to my academic classes? Time management is essential—we want students to challenge themselves NOT overwhelm themselves!

5 CASHS has a 7 period day which means you can select up to 7
CASHS has a 7 period day which means you can select up to 7.0 credits within your school day English Science History Math Math (if Algebra 1) or Elective(s) ICT Fitness & Wellness Elective or Study Hall Remember that BAND and SYMPHONY meet before/after school so they can be scheduled IN ADDITION to your 7.0 credits

6 English Two options for English next year: English 9
Honors English 9—students recommended for this course based on PVAAS projections will receive a PINK letter Passing your English class will result in earning 1.0 credit toward the 4.0 credits required for graduation

7 Math Options for next year—consult with your child’s current math teacher for appropriate selection Algebra 1 (most students will sign up for this)—this is a double period math class and will result in earning 2.0 credits Algebra 2 or Honors Algebra 2 (students may select this option after successful completion of Algebra I) Geometry or Honors Geometry (students may select this option after successful completion of Algebra I) Passing your Math class will result in earning 2.0 credits (Algebra 1) or 1.0 credit (Algebra 2 or Geometry) toward the 4.0 credits required for graduation

8 Social Studies Options for next year Early American History
Honors Early American History—students recommended for the course will receive a GREEN LETTER. This recommendation is driven by the PVAAS English projections. AP United States History—students projected to score a 3 or better (PVAAS) on the AP exam will receive a YELLOW LETTER. Parents may opt in by signing and returning the YELLOW LETTER—VERY SELECTIVE & DEMANDING option Passing your History class will result in earning 1.0 credit toward the 3.5 credits required for graduation

9 Science Choices for next year Environmental Science
Honors Biology—students who are recommended for this course based on PVAAS projections will receive a BLUE LETTER Passing your Science class will result in earning 1.0 credit toward the 3.0 credits required for graduation

10 Fitness/Wellness 9th graders will choose 1 of the following P.E. Courses: Team Sports, Cardio Endurance, or Lifelong Fitness Students will need to purchase and change into a P.E. Uniform for this class—Available in the CASHS School Store Passing your physical education class will earn you a 0.5 credit toward the 1.5 credits required for graduation

11 Information Communication Technology Application
This is a required course that ALL 9th grade students will take Passing this course will satisfy the 0.5 credit required for graduation

12 Electives 9th grade students will have a limited selection of elective courses to choose from Students who choose to take a study hall will have few if any elective courses in their schedule

13 Plan Ahead…. Students will have greater choices and opportunities as they progress through their high school years. Academic achievement, attendance, and behavior choices NOW will all impact what opportunities are available later!
