1 Mentoring By: Victoria A Menasce

2 What it means to be a mentor?
Being able to help others. Sharing your skill set with your Mentee. Being able to make time for others who are struggling academically. Building from one another

3 Can you learn from your Mentee?
With every meeting I started to realize that Elhaj was understanding the material more and more. He just needed that push, showing someone cared. Even if you believe that you'll get nothing out of it, trust me you will. As they say ”You learn from one another”. Every week we discussed NY times articles or assigned articles. Yes you can learn from your mentee. When I took part with the 92/24 mentoring program, I helped a 92 student pass his ACT exam meaning he got placed into English 12. Elhaj taught me a lot, as well as me helping him.

4 Based on article The article is trying to encourage people to don’t be afraid and help others. We all relay on one another, so why not lend a helping hand? Knowledge that values education for its own sake and also calls students to bring their talents into the service of the world’s great needs (p 54). Students who become engaged in their community activities end up having a great impact in their own attitudes and beliefs.

5 Quotes from Article “We believe an honors curriculum represents an ideal venue for introducing complex conversations that, over time, can transform classroom discussions into active social change”. “Educating students to think critically about how they themselves might act justly can be an important first step in the education of honors graduates who will lead their communities in navigating the path to a more just world” (p65).

6 What I want you to do… Think of this program as a two way street.
Meaning... Learn from one another, take time to help another; Maybe they can help you. I surely helped and understood from my mentee. Lastly never do your mentees work, your suppose to help them.

7 Mentoring research- Honors
There were even studies done with 23 schools to have this mentoring program, this program ended up helping so many students ,some advantages were that students did better while being mentored. Most students whom don’t know where to go end up possibly giving up or even failing. Students need mentors, almost like role models to push them. Showing that someone cares for what they do. We all want one another to succeed. During the fall semester I took part of a honors symposium. Which I did independent research with the help if Professor Gabay.

8 F.I Mentoring https://futuresinitiative.org/mentor s/
F.I Mentoring is a group pf mentors across the CUNY system designed to help their peers in their schools or other places. What I love about F.I Mentoring is you can write a post anonymously if you don’t feel comfortable. You have many mentors to ask for help... I'm one of them. Want to join? You can fill out the application to possibly get chosen to help your school and CUNY.
