1 ZOOM VIDEO CONFERENCING: RECORDING YOUR SESSION

2 Why Record a Zoom Meeting?
It’s generally accepted now that providing video content can enhance the student experience not just online, but in other modalities also, i.e., hybrid, and on-campus courses. So the question becomes “How to create the most effective video content?”

3 Why Record a Zoom Meeting?
Zoom is a great web conferencing tool, providing a variety of ways to connect with students and share content synchronously: Capturing delivery of lecture material Recording regular classroom sessions Capturing individual tutoring sessions Enabling virtual office hours Enabling instructors to easily split groups into breakout sessions

4 Why Record a Zoom Meeting?
Recording any of these ways of working with students allows these connection methods to be leveraged asynchronously Share with students who couldn’t be there Allow students to use for lesson or test review Help keep track of student participation Could be used as part of a quiz, i.e. view the video and answer questions

5 Can Set to Record Automatically
If you expect to record often or always, you can set your meetings to automatically record in the settings of your Zoom account. Navigate to your Account and click on the ‘Recording’ Tab NOTE: This is not the My Recordings button on the left Make sure the box for automatic recording is ticked

6 Cloud vs. Local Recording
The college does not subscribe to Cloud Recording services For reference, the Cloud item is listed in this area of the Recording Tab and we can see it’s disabled by the “Locked by admin” note.

7 Steps To Start a Recording in Zoom
Start your meeting as the host Click the Record button on the right side, bottom menu in Zoom Choose ‘Record on this Computer’ Recording to your computer saves the recorded videos to the hard drive of the device you are currently using. The college doesn’t support Zoom’s cloud recording options at this time.

8 Start Recording When you start recording a ‘recording’ message is displayed on-screen to you and the other attendees. Upper Left Corner Lower Right Corner

9 Stop vs. Pause Recording
You can stop or pause the recording at any time. Stopping the recording will split the video, producing multiple files. To make sure you have a single recording of a meeting, hit Pause instead of Stop. To end a recording, click on the stop button above the ‘Pause/Stop Recording’ text or simply click the red ‘End Meeting’ button at the bottom of the screen. After the meeting has ended the video will be converted and stored in the destination you chose.

10 End Recording To end a recording, click on the stop button above the ‘Pause/Stop Recording’ text or simply click the red ‘End Meeting’ button at the bottom of the screen. After the meeting has ended the video will be converted and stored in the destination you chose.

11 Converting a Recording
Choose where the recordings will be placed This applies whether you use manual or automatic recording

12 IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CONVERTING LOCAL RECORDINGS
You MUST do the conversion on the machine you recorded on! The video can be lost entirely if you don’t You can try saving to a flash drive, but that doesn’t usually work very well
