3 Today’s Agenda Be Authentic with Duo MyIsland ID
Your Online Office 365 Toolbox Blackboard Highlights Be the “BCSSE” you can be! Be Authentic with Duo (3 mins) They should already have set this up during Islander Launch. We just want to reiterate what it does for them and why it’s important. MyIsland ID (8 mins) Like duo, their settings should already be in place. We will use this time to talk to them about how they use the system now that they are in (ex: what options they have, how to reset passwords, etc.) Your Online Office 365 Toolbox (5 min) This subject is touched on during Islander Launch, so they should be familiar Office 365 generally. The main idea here is to show them how to easily access their office 365 products, focusing on what products they have available to them. We also want to remind them about the free downloads and where to find them. This will be a great opportunity to share any personal experiences that may help them with managing being a first-time student. (ex: using one note for class notes, one drive for file saving and sharing) Blackboard Highlights (10 mins) This session will focus on getting started (browser, logging in, personalization, etc.), setting up notifications, using Bb in your course (submitting assignments, accessing content and types of content students will see), Be the “BCSSE” you can be (25 mins) Instructions for accessing the survey will be on the slide. Use your script as a guide…try to stay as close as possible to it, but feel free to put your own twist on it as well 

6 Your Online Office 365 Toolbox
Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi provides the latest version of Microsoft Office FREE OF CHARGE!!! Important!: Let them know that they can download Microsoft office for free. They can visit the website on the slide or the IT website. Focus on the main tools that students will be using right away: Outlook, Calendar, One Drive (?) If you have time, introduce OneNote…some students may have never used the tool so it may be helpful to tell them a little bit about what it does. 5 great reasons to use OneNote or Office 365 in general 1)It’s free 2)No more lost notes 3)No more hunting for notes 4)Easily share notes and documents with your group 5)Quick access to everything you need in one location! Remind students that all official campus communication will go to their Islander , so it is important that they can access that. For help installing Office 365 visit: iol.tamucc.edu/Office-365.html

10 – Getting to work Accessing your Course Content
Types of Course Content Submitting an Assignment These are the three most important parts of using Blackboard in your course. Accessing your course content You access course content from links on the course menu. Links that hold content are called content areas. For example, an instructor may add a content area that contains a week's worth of course material. Week 1 may include content such as readings, assignments, a discussion, and a link to website. Select an item to open it. Most common Types of content Item-a file, image or text Assignment-any work that your instructor will use to grade you on Test Course Tools When you’re in your blackboard environment these are the types of content you will see. Your instructor may not use all of these at one time. Submitting an assignment Your instructor can add assignments to different areas of your course. You might access assignments from a link on the course menu called "Assignments." Or, your instructor might incorporate assignments into each week's content. Ask your instructor if you have questions about how your course is organized. Your instructor may make some assignments available after a certain date or after you complete a certain task. For example, you might have to mark a lecture as reviewed before you may access an assignment. Contact your instructor if you don't see an assignment you think you should. If you submit after the due date, your submission is marked LATE and penalties may apply.

What is the BCSSE Survey? How long does it take? Do I have to take it? What is the BCSSE Survey? BCSSE ask students about their prior academic experiences as well as their expectations for the coming year. How long will it take? You have 25 mins to take the survey, but everyone’s times will be different. Do I have to take it? The survey is optional. However, taking it will be helpful in making sure that you are academically successful throughout your time here at TAMUCC….Why? [NEXT SLIDE]

13 How does BCSSE Affect Your Experience at TAMUCC?
The document is an example of the Advising Report that will be used within Starfish and accessible to advisors and student support services. Anyone in the student’s success network will be able to see the information provided on this sheet. Most importantly, advisors will use this information to help during advising appointments. Feel free to point out important information from the sheet. If you are running low on time, focus on telling them about the benefits. **Start the script prompt** Let the students know if at any point of the survey they need technical assistance they can raise their hand, and someone will come and help them.
