1 Impact through networking
What is in it for me? Katalin Alföldi, policy officer, COST Association COST Info Day, Bratislava, 07/02/2019

2 Ingredients for networking People Ideas Resources
Research networks connect researchers who are physically separated, to facilitate sharing of expertise and resources, and to exchange valuable skills What networking means and does it need to network?

3 different networking tools meetings, training schools,
COST offers different networking tools meetings, training schools, short-term scientific missions (STSMs), dissemination tool, conference grants events to bring COST Actions together with stakeholders (COST Connect) COST stirs Network effects – getting into contact with peers Capacity building – entry point, management skills What does COST do to allow networking happen? Next slides to look at the “what is in it for me” at different distance to the time of the OCST activity

4 New interdisciplinary research collaborations
Outputs New interdisciplinary research collaborations Peer-reviewed co-created publications, New research leadership skills and experience for less-connected researchers Common research proposals for H2020 or other European schemes or for various national grants What can come out of a COST Action, I can directly benefit from?

5 Approved common research projects on interdisciplinary research
Outcomes Approved common research projects on interdisciplinary research Coordination of standards, procedures and methods New research infrastructures and programs on societal challenges Career advancement for less-connected researchers What can come out of a COST Action, my research can mid-term benefit from?

6 Impacts Scientific: interdisciplinary collaborations leading to breakthrough science, attained somewhere along the way; a concrete product or application developed out of an idea; consolidation of the field, with different players coming to common understandings and collaborations Societal: bridge the innovation divide and participation gaps and brain circulation in the European Research Area (ERA) What can come out of a COST Action, my research field can benefit from?

7 Visual representation of COST impact philosophy
Summary of the previously described. Like the black box, you add ideas, resources, people, stir them via the COST activities and you could receive the outputs, outcomes and scientific and societal impact.
