Super Beast- Demo Presented by: HJ Arnett Industries, LLC Chris Shipley Portland, OR

2 First Things First The following presentation is a factory simulation and results may vary for each utility Always wear proper safety equipment when operating the Super Beast Make sure all connections are secure

3 Getting Started Remove the lock and seal Remove the Meter
Disconnect Neutral leading from meter to service location and fuse panel Inspect the meter base and connections Attach the white neutral clip

4 Place the Super Beast in the socket with the neutral clip attached and the voltage will show from each conductor to the neutral. The following demonstration is a simulated model. At most utilities the meters will read 120V +/- 5%.

5 Using the Meter Base Adaptor- For the hard to reach places
For those hard to reach places, the Meter Base Adapter adds 7 feet reach for easy access. If you are using the meter base adaptor here are the proper steps. Hook up the neutral clip to the metal ground strip through the hole at the bottom of the adaptor.

6 Using the Meter Base Adaptor- For the hard to reach places
Attach the Super Beast into the base adaptor with the green clip located at the bottom of the Super Beast. Clip the alligator clips to the -Meter Socket -Weather Head -Transformer -Junction Box

7 Points of Connection- Overhead

8 Points of Connection- Underground

9 Insert or Connect Unit to Meter Base
When the unit is plugged in, the meters will show current line voltage, no load When the unit is connected to the Meter base, the bottom two plugs are not energized. They are simply used for support in the meter or meter base adapter.

10 Apply load to the left conductor
With the toggle switch moved to the left you are applying 20 Amps to the left conductor. One of the following examples will occur. Safety Stop Test Switch moved to Left Position Switch has double-throw safety feature to prevent internal short-circuits.

11 Applying load to the left conductor
This photo is of the load being applied to the left conductor with nothing wrong on the utility side of the meter can. The left meter drops 1 volt which is acceptable with a 20 Amp load applied. 120 V – 5% (maximum acceptable drop) = 114 VAC. 6 Volt drop may be OK, but look close at all connections, wire size, length of service drop. Determine your standards.

12 Applying load to the left conductor
This photo is of a bad left conductor. The left meter decreases and the right meter stays relatively the same at 126V.

13 Applying load to the left conductor
This picture shows a Bad left conductor with the left meter going blank and the right meter staying close to the original 111V.

14 Applying load to the left conductor
Here we have a partially open neutral. The left meter dips significantly and the right meter increases above the usual voltage. Also, if you toggle to the right, you will see the same voltages reversed.

15 Apply load to the right conductor
With the toggle switch moved to the right you are applying 20 Amps to the right conductor. One of the following examples will occur.

16 Applying load to the right conductor
This photo shows no problem on the utility side of the meter. A load is being applied to the right conductor and the right meter only drops 1 volt and the left stays the same.

17 Applying load to the right conductor
Here we have a bad right conductor. The load is applied to the right side and the right meter drops (greater than 5%), but the left stays the same.

18 Applying load to the right conductor
This picture represents a Bad right conductor with the right meter going blank and the left meter staying at the original 121V.

19 Applying load to the right conductor
Here we see that there is a partially open neutral due to the decrease in the right meter and an increase on the left meter. Once again if you toggle to the left, you will see the same voltages reversed.

20 Full Open Neutral You may move the toggle switch to either the left or right and one meter will rise to approximately 240 V and the other will go blank.

21 Super Beast Tutorial If you have any trouble using the Super Beast, please give us a call at Remember, the Super Beast is to be used on 120V service only If you feel that the 20 Amp load is insufficient for isolating the trouble, we do have the Mega Beast available with up to 80 Amps of applicable load.
