2 Vile Victorians SUMMER TERM Science
1. Identify uses of everyday materials. 2. Explore uses of materials in our area. 4. Compare the suitability of everyday materials. 6. Investigate a scientific invention. 5. Explore the process of recycling. 3. Investigate how the shape of objects made from some materials can be changed. National Curriculum References Pupils should be taught to: *identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses * find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

1. Locate popular Victorian holiday destinations. 2. Identify human and physical features of the seaside. National Curriculum References The pupil can: use basic geographical vocabulary to refer to: *key physical features, including: beach, cliff, coast, forest, hill, mountain, sea, ocean, river, soil, valley, vegetation, season and weather key human features, including: city, town, village, factory, farm, house, office, port, harbour and shop

Create a fact file showing key information about a significant person. History 12. Compare Victorian school life to their own. Trip to Hartlebury with Victorian ‘school’ experience. 11. Compare Victorian and modern modes of transport including the steam train. 2. Place events from their own life in chronological order. 4. Compare their life to a Victorian child (chimney sweep). 6. Compare how rich and poor Victorian lived. 8. Identify Victorian inventions and discuss the impact they have had on our lives today. 3. Place events from Queen Victoria's life in chronological order. 10. Research Florence Nightingale and the impact she has had on modern day nursing. 7. Some should be used to compare aspects of life in different period *Pupils should develop an awareness of the past, using common words and phrases relating to the passing of time. They should know where the people and events they study fit within a chronological framework and identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods. They should use a wide vocabulary of everyday historical terms. They should ask and answer questions, choosing and using parts of stories and other sources to show that they know and understand key features of events. They should understand some of the ways in which we find out about the past and identify different ways in which it is represented.
