1 HOW TO MAKE MYSELF ATTRACTIVE FOR A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER
Matthew 25:1-13

2 Job requirements are changing rapidly, technology is advancing speedily and job competition is rising steadily. Whether you are a student, job seeker or an employee, your education is not enough to get you a job. You have a take a LEAP to attract employers and remain employable. Take ownership of your career development! Learning Employability (LEAP) Publicity Expertise Attitude

3 LEAP: LEARNING Education is the foundation of your career. Get the required level of education for your field. Go for adult or part-time education Attend Dutch and English language courses. Ask you boss for training opportunities e.g. supervisor, foreman. Get the required certifications: cleaning, security guard, nursing, IT. You can learn a lot by following online courses: or Regularly attend meetups and seminars (

4 LEAP: EXPERTISE “Knowledge is power but knowledge without application is useless”. Employers are more interested in experience than education. Do volunteer work and traineeships. Be diligent: Proverbs 22:29. Watch how-to videos on YouTube e.g. graphic design. Seize opportunities to learn techniques at your place of work e.g. driving a fork lift. Dare to leave your comfort zone! Computer skills e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel Spreadsheet, PowerPoint. Get a drivers’ licence. It will give you an advantage over your peers.

5 LEAP: ATTITUDE FLEXIBILITY: respond to change positively and adapt quickly. COMMUNICATION: listen actively and make your point clearly. TEAMWORK: support other people to achieve success. PROBLEM SOLVING: analyse issues and provide effective solutions. PROACTIVITY: Take initiatives. Think ahead and on your feet.

6 LEAP: PUBLICITY You need a good level of exposure to ‘sell’ your expertise to employers. Create an account on LinkedIn and Facebook and update it. Many employers are interested in the social media profiles of applicants. Register with recognized groups and associations in your field. Write blogs, articles and papers.
