1 Important people in American History
For Ms. Schmitt's awesome 2nd grade class!

2 George Washington He was the first president
to be voted unanimously. Everybody loved him! He established a Cabinet Of Advisors that the president still uses today. He was born in colonial Virginia! What other cool facts did we learn?

3 Abraham Lincoln Born in Hodgenville, Kentucky
Mr. Lincoln was the 16th president of the U.S Issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which authorized the Army to protect escaped slaves and encouraged border states to outlaw slavery Fun fact: Lincoln's cat ate at the dinner table with everyone What else did we learn about Lincoln??

4 Susan B Anthony She was an equal rights advocate, and social activist. She devoted her life to not only fighting for women’s equality but for the equality of all people.

5 When she was a child she fell ill with scarlet fever or meningitis, and lost her ability to see and hear. Her mentor, Anne Sullivan taught Helen Sign language to communicate She was the first deaf and blind person to go to college and earn a bachelors degree Helen Keller

6 Jackie Robinson Played for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was the first African American to play major league baseball. He had a major role in the civil rights movement.

7 Martin Luther King Jr. Leader of the African American Civil Rights Movement Used nonviolent civil disobedience World famous for his speech “I Have a Dream” He was assassinated at the age 39.
