8. Circulatory system
The body relies upon the circulatory system to transport oxygen and nutrients (substances providing nourishment) to the cells in the body (via oxygenated blood, whilst also extracting waste and carbon dioxide via deoxygenated blood away from the cells.
The heart pumps, red oxygen rich blood to each part of the body. Blue, oxygen-poor blood returns from the body to the heart. It then travels through the lungs where carbon dioxide (CO2) is exchanged for new oxygen.
