2. Introduction
Objective: to establish and agree a process to develop standards to support the water status assessment following the Water Framework Directive (WFD)
Use the CIS process as the source of information and the forum to identify WFD standardisation needs
Use CEN as European standardisation body

3. Status of the document
Discussed and agreed with representatives from CEN TC 230
Presented at the ECOSTAT
Written consultation among Chemical Monitoring experts

4. Stepwise procedure
Step 1: Identification and proposal of the WFD relevant standards by CIS groups and CEN
Step 2: Present the proposal to the CIS Strategic Co-ordination Group (SCG)
Step 3: Endorsement at the WFD Committee to be included in Work Programme
Step 4: DG Environment request to CEN (mandate)
Information exchange with CIS groups
Step 5: CEN develops the standard
Step 6: Commission Decision adapting Section of Annex V through comitology
