3. Art Foundation
A one year course which prepares students of Fine Art or Photography for degree study.
An opportunity to explore a wider range of media and make informed decisions about their choice of degree course, as well as gain support in preparing a portfolio.
Past students have completed Art Foundation courses at: Camberwell Art College, Central St. Martins, Kingston University, Leeds College of Art, Falmouth and Prince’s Drawing School

4. Apprenticeships – more on this later
Wide range of paid apprenticeships at various levels available for students post A-Level including professional sectors such as Accountancy and Law.
Introduction of degree apprenticeships (limited subject range)
Apply directly to companies so can also apply to UCAS
Previous students have gained places on high level apprenticeship schemes at:

Civil Service
Large government push on apprenticeships
No longer seen as poor alternative
Highly competitive programmes offered by many large companies
Debt free way of gaining qualifications
Not suited to all as many still wish to have that academic student experience

5. Gap Year
Students can apply for a deferred entry to start in 2021 or can choose to apply in UCAS 2020
An opportunity to work / travel / volunteer in relation to their chosen degree course

Choose between Renaissance and Modern or Modern stream
If you select Renaissance and Modern stream you have to study Italian because you study in Venice for one term in the third year.
Choose modules from medieval through to twentieth century.
In the first year you have to study ‘established methodological approaches and theoretical concepts of historical enquiry in the ‘History, Controversy and Debate’ module.’

Russell Group membership can sometimes indicate a university is good – but note that half of the top ten unis are not Russell Group

13. Your predicted grades are NOT your target or module grades.
Predicted A Level or BTEC grades form the basis of your University offers
A University will make a conditional offer to your child. Your child may receive as many as 5 or as few as 0 offers. UCAS tariff points are used by some universities (around a third). Instead of asking for grades (e.g. BBC), a university may express the offer as 112 points. The more traditional universities are more likely to stipulate grades and not points. Also, universities may not, for example, consider BBB at A level to be the same as ABC at A level. Unconditional offers are becoming more frequent and should be considered very carefully.

These will be made in September by your subject teacher based on End of Year exams.

16. What should you and your child be doing now and in the summer?
Look together at prospectuses online, unifrog and league tables
Go to 2 open days:
Students should talk to their teacher about predicted grades – these will be confirmed in September once we have all AS and End of Year exam grades.
Make informed ‘choices’ including both subject/location and a range of entry requirements.
Over the summer, complete their personal statement, on Unifrog
(Second draft deadline: Friday 6th September).

Stress how offers come as soon as you make your application. The sooner you get it in the sooner you get offers.

17. What’s coming up at school?
Normal school until Friday 14th June
End of Year 12 Exams – Monday 17th – Friday 28th June (INSET day Monday 24th June) there are no registration/lessons during this time apart form BTEC subjects which will continue to have lessons
All students are back in reg/lessons 1st -5th July
Destinations Week and Year 13 progression meetings– 8th -10th July
Last day of school for Y12 – Wednesday 10th July
This year we are encouraging students to find a work experience placement during this period
AS results will be available to collect from on 15th August.
Students must have a Merit/D grade to progress on their courses into Y13.
