You will need your binder, pen/pencil, and a textbook

2 Warm-Up 11/28/16 In your binder, list the classroom expectations and procedures in my classroom. Be prepared to answer by random selection!

Slaves help the economy grow which benefits the nation. Union- North, Blue Uniforms, USA Leader- Abraham Lincoln General- Ulysses S. Grant Capital-Washington D.C. Beliefs- Slavery was cruel, the government has a right to tax states and tell them what they can or can’t do Quick recap

We will identify significant individuals and events concerning Texas and the Civil War such as the Battle of Galveston, the Battle of Sabine Pass, and the Battle of Palmito Ranch. Success Criteria I will rate each Texas battle during the Civil War from most important to least important and explain why I rated them.

Battle of Galveston: October 4, 1862; January 1, 1863 Battle of Sabine Pass: September 8, 1863 Battle of Palmito Ranch: May 12-13, 1865 have the students write this down for a timeline of events

You will read pages from the Textbook The purpose of reading is to examine the battles in Galveston In your notebook, summarize the battle, include the leaders if possible, the description and outcome of the battle(s), and anything relevant to the battle. Read the textbook with the students. Stop and discuss the information with the students. 10 minutes for each battle. Write the information down on the board with the students (We do together)

11 Battle of Sabine Pass You will read pages 416-417 from the Textbook
The purpose of reading is to examine the battle of Sabine Pass In your notebook, summarize the battle, include the leaders if possible, the description and outcome of the battle(s), and anything relevant to the battle. This time the students will work together with a partner looking for the information. Call on students to give you the information to write on the board (the students with a partner)

12 CIVIL WAR ENDS AND SLAVES ARE FREE!
Surrender at Appomattox •Union General Ulysses S. Grant trapped Confederate General Robert E. Lee at Petersburg, Virginia. •Grant accepted Lee’s surrender at the Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865 Students need to write both of these down

You will read pages 424 from the Textbook The purpose of reading is to examine the battles in Galveston In your notebook, summarize the battle, include the leaders if possible, the description and outcome of the battle(s), and anything relevant to the battle. This time the students will work by themselves. Call on students to give you the information to write on the board (the students will work through independently)
