2. THE ROLE OF VARNA TPP AS PART OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL ENERGY SYSTEM
With three out of its six units, it provides 60% of the cold back-up of the national power system, which was activated 41 times in 2011
Furthermore, it is an essential source for Northeastern Bulgaria
Over the last few years Varna TPP has repeatedly managed to prove its exceptional significance in the event of emergency situations, repairs of other capacities of the electrical energy system, increased consumption of electricity, or in energy crisis situations
The power plant was crucial for ensuring energy stability in Bulgaria when the deliveries of Russian gas stopped in January 2009, as well as during the prolonged repairs at Unit 6 at Kozloduy NPP in the autumn of
The capacities of the power plant have been used time and again in force majeure circumstances to meet abrupt increases in the demand of electrical energy
Varna TPP plays a key role for the energy balance of the country and for ensuring stability of power supply
These are all but a few examples that evidence the great significance of Varna TPP, not only locally, but also on a national level
