Subject-tells who or what the sentence is about. Predicate-tells what the subject is or is doing. Subject and Predicate can be compound meaning it can have more than one.

7 Action Verbs Action verb is a word that describes what the subject is doing. 2 objects follow action verbs Direct object Receives the action of the verb Tell whom or what the action was done Indirect object Appears only in a sentence with a direct object Tells for whom or to whom the action was done Always comes before the direct object

8 Linking Verbs Linking verbs connects a sentence’s subject with a noun or adjective in the predicate 2 predicate words follow linking verbs Predicate Noun Tell what the subject is Predicate adjective Tells what the subject is like

Helps the main verb express action Helping verb phrase is made up of the linking verb plus the action verb ACTION LINKING + = Helping Verb Phrase
