Connect with individual on campus who reports Student-Body Federal Graduation Rates and Enrollment to the NCAA.
The Non-Scholarship Freshmen Student-Athlete Cohort is within the institution’s Student- Body Cohort.
Consider implementing a “flag” in your campus’ enrollment management system to identify student-athletes in the cohort upon initial enrollment.
Determine the best way to track final outcomes annually remembering that graduates and allowable exclusions are already identified within the Student-Body Cohort.

On a varsity squad list on the first date of competition, championship segment (Non-Scholarship Group).
On a varsity squad list on the first date of competition, championship segment (2/4 Transfer Group).
Mid-Year (winter/spring) Enrollees
On a varsity squad list on the first date of competition, championship segment (January Group).

8. Cohort Rules
The cohort is determined only during the first year of enrollment at your institution.
Student-athletes that begin participating in athletics after the first year at your institution are NOT INCLUDED IN THE COHORT.
Student-athletes that stop participating in athletics after the first year at your institution REMAIN IN THE COHORT.
Do not include:
Student-athletes in non-NCAA championship sports.
Student-athletes who withdraw before the institution’s census date.
Graduate Transfers

9. Cohort Rules for Transfers
Transfer student-athletes are placed in the cohort based on their first year of enrollment at ANY institution.
For example, is a student-athlete initially enrolled at another institution in the Fall of 2011 and transferred to your institution enrolling in the Fall of 2012, they will be reported in the 2011 cohort as a transfer student- athlete.

10. Sport Assignment
Single-sport athletes are in the cohort for that sport.
Multi-sport athletes
If the student-athlete participates in 1) football, 2) men’s or women’s basketball, 3) baseball or 4) men’s and women’s track, assign the sport in that priority (1 through 4).
If the student-athlete participates in other sports, select one.
Assign NCAA three-letter sport codes
For graduation rates reporting, cross-country, indoor track and outdoor track are treated as one sport – men’s or women’s track and field (MTR/WTR).

Unable to graduate from YOUR institution within 6 years due to: 1) Death or permanent disability, 2) service in the armed forces, 3) foreign aid service or 4) service on an official religious mission. L
Left Eligible
If the student-athlete had returned to your institution, they would have been academically eligible to compete. E
Nongraduate or
Left Ineligible
Did not graduate within 6 years of initial enrollment OR if they had returned to your institution, they WOULD NOT have been academically eligible to compete.
