3 Aussie Breakfast 3 types: - Continental: toast, butter, jam, coffee or tea - Buffet: continental plus sliced sausage, cheese, Vegemite, Damper(Australian bread), yoghurt, juice, Aussie sparkling wine - Fully cooked: Buffet plus hot meals (eggs, bacon, sausages, beans in tomato sauce, potato fritter)

4 Lunch - only a snack - meals like pasta or salads - typical of Australian lunch: Meat Pies Fast food: - McDonald's - Pizza Hut - Hungry Jack's (Australian 'Burger King')

5 Dinner - principal meal - you can't buy alcohol in most of the restaurants B.Y.O. ( bring your own) - typical meals: - crocodile on peppers - kangaroo médaillons - fillets of fish with Macadamia sauce

6 Vegemite - Australian spread - looks like 'Nutella' but it's tasty Damper - even the Aborigines baked it - a traditional Australian soda bread

7 Meat Pies - flaky pastry filled with hash - in the past the tea was made in a 'Billy' (a tin) by the Aborigines, even today this is still typical Australian Billy Tea - water is warmed in the billy over a fire, then tealeaves are added

8 Bush Food - 'Bush Tucker' - food of the Aborigines - they collected: - bird's eggs - insects and grubs - orchid roots - … - they hunted: - kangaroos - wallabies - koalas -... - for a few years only they have brought in some traditions of Bush Food - renewed food and methods of preparation

12 ANZAC Day - most important national holiday - 25th April - first major military action in Gallipoli - remembers dead soldiers - national commemoration day since the 1920s - a typical ANZAC Day ceremony may includes the following features: an introduction, a prayer, an address, laying of wreaths, a recitation, the Last Post, a period of silence and the national anthem

13 Christmas - 25 th December - celebrate it away from home, e.g. camp sites, holiday parks, relatives' homes - specials for christmas tree: glass baubles or wooden ornaments decorated with images of Australian wildlife such as koalas, parrots, Waratah flowers or Australian landmarks... - barbecue on the beach or picnic in the park - is in the Australian summer holidays
