2 Monday, May 13 1. Onomatopoeia- words that mimic the sounds they describe. 2. Metaphor- a comparison of two unlike things 3. Personification- a metaphor giving inanimate objects or ideas human characteristics 4. Hyperbole- an over-exaggeration for effect 5. Simile- a comparison using “like” or “as”

3 Tuesday, May 14 6. Sound devices- techniques used to convey meaning through sound. (ex: rhyme, assonance, consonance, alliteration, and onomatopoeia). 7. Alliteration- repetition of similar sounds at the beginnings of words. 8. Assonance- Repetition of a vowel sound in a series of words. 9. Consonance- repetition of consonant sounds in a series of words. 10. Imagery: creates a mental picture and appeals to the five senses.
