1 Left Atrial Fibrosis Assessed with Cardiac MRI in Patients with Paroxysmal and Those with Persistent Atrial Fibrillation More than two left atrial segments with late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) MRI (P = .004) and left atrial volume of 112 mL or more (P < .001) were associated with persistent atrial fibrillation rather than with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. MRI LGE involving the left inferior pulmonary vein antrum was higher in persistent compared with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (39.2% vs 7.4%; P < .001). In multivariable analysis, LGE in the left inferior pulmonary vein antrum was independently associated with persistent atrial fibrillation (odds ratio = 4.2; P < .001). 3D LA model from MRI shows LGE involving the left inferior pulmonary vein (LIPV) antrum (arrow). RIPV = right inferior pulmonary vein. Lee DK et al. Left Atrial Fibrosis Assessed with Cardiac MRI in Patients with Paroxysmal and Those with Persistent Atrial Fibrillation.
