1 “Reagan Revolution,” the Fed, and Terrorism

2 Ronald Reagan and Federalism
Federalism: a system where power is shared between the states and the national (federal) government Ronald Reagan’s policies had an impact on the relationship between the federal and state governments. The conservative political philosophy of President Reagan prompted a reevaluation of the size and role of government in the economy and society of contemporary America.

3 President Reagan and conservative Republicans advocated for
tax cuts: people pay less taxes transfer of responsibilities to state governments less federal government control (Antifederalist?) reduction in the number and size of government programs and regulations (for example, social security) appointment of judges/justices who exercised “judicial restraint”: judges should hesitate to strike down laws unless they are obviously unconstitutional strengthening of the American military.

4 The “Reagan Revolution” extended beyond his time in office with
the election of his vice president George H. W. Bush in 1988 the election of a centrist Democrat Bill Clinton in 1992 & 1996 the Republican sweep of congressional elections and statehouses in the 1990s the election of George W. Bush as president in 2000 & 2004
