1 Q: Why is ATP useful to cells?
8.1 Energy and Life p226 Q: Why is ATP useful to cells? A: ATP can easily release & store energy by breaking and re-forming the bonds between its phosphate groups. This characteristic of ATP makes it exceptionally useful as a basic energy source for all cells.

2 Chemical Energy and ATP
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) Storing Energy(ADP like partially charged battery) Releasing Energy-breaking off the phosphate group Used in: active transport, protein synthesis

3 ATP as a charged battery
ADP has some energy, but needs more. When 3rd phosphate is added, it becomes ATP, fully charged.

4 How are ATP and ADP diff?

5 Q: What happens during the process of photosynthesis?
Heterotrophs-get food from other sources Autotrophs- Make their own food A: Photosynthesis-process by which plants convert energy of sunlight into chemical energy for food.

6 Turn outline into the tray, and get….
WB pages #1-8 and #13-18 only

7 What do you remember about it?
Photosynthesis What do you remember about it?
