3 Department of Environmental Protection
MISSION: To enhance the quality of life in our community by protecting and improving Montgomery County's air, water and land in a sustainable way while fostering smart growth, a thriving economy and healthy communities. RESIDENTIAL ENERGY PROGRAM: Montgomery County works with residents to reduce energy use, switch to clean energy, and lower our emissions as a community.

4 Energy Conservation …happens when you use less energy.

5 Energy Efficiency …means using the latest technology to save energy and money.

6 HOW CAN YOU SAVE ENERGY AND MONEY?

7 Quick Home Energy Check up = $0
Home Performance with Energy Star Audit = $100 Weatherize your home = income-based programs and rebates available In enacting the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act in 2008, the Maryland General Assembly noted that “energy efficiency is among the least expensive ways to meet the growing electricity demands of the State” (Id.§ 7-211(b)). EmPOWER programs have the potential to provide cost-effective long-term benefits, including reduced energy consumption and rates, avoided investments in energy transmission and distribution, job creation, and improvements to the environment. EmPOWER programs are managed by the following companies: Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), Potomac Edison Company (PE), Delmarva Power & Light (Delmarva), Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO), Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SMECO), and Washington Gas Light Company (WGL), with the exception of programs for low-income customers, which the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) administers. Programs include lighting and appliance rebates for homeowners, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (including home energy assessments and 50% rebates for energy improvements like insulation and air sealing).

8 Renewable Energy Solar Co-Ops Community Solar
Take advantage of a group of homeowners’ bulk-purchasing power to get discounted pricing and a quality installation. Community Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems placed elsewhere but provide the benefits of solar electricity to participating subscribers.

9 EV Charging Stations The charging station must be installed in the garage or on the wall of the house. MEA has anElectric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) rebate. Permits go through DPS Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). In order to receive these rebates, eligible participants must apply with MEA, which will issue rebates on a first-come, first-served basis. The EVSE Rebate Program 2.0 provides funding assistance for costs incurred acquiring or installing qualified electric vehicle supply equipment on or after July 1, 2017, but before June 30, 2020. ATTENTION (2/12/19): Funding has been depleted. Applications will continue to be accepted. Those applications will be placed on a waitlist. Beginning on 7/1/19 (start of the new State fiscal year) when funding becomes available again, those applications will be processed in the order they were received. Applicants will receive an notification when their application is received and when their application has ultimately been processed.
