The sun shield is not the important, and will only be created if we have enough funding for it. Reservoir may be able to be rented through FMS rather than purchased

9 Testing Plans Battery can provide power for sufficient time
Hook pump to battery and time until battery is dead Pump flow can be effectively dampened to 0.5gal/min Use flow meter and Y valves to test pump output Ability to adjust water inlet temperature Use Y valve to add cold water to the water input tank to avoid eclipsing max acceptable inlet temperature to pump Max achievable pump temperature Run system at SOC with 1 single reservoir for both intake and deposit- graph temp vs time to see peak heating Time for plate to heat qty Xgal of water to temps A,B,C,... Circulate qty Xgal of water through the plate and collect time data on when temperatures A,B,C,... are met Evan Each of these can include efficiency metrics, cross checking with theorized values, and repeat verification

10 ERs and Testing

11 Pump Testing Iteration 1: Test pumping system (without solar-thermal water heater) Discoveries: Piping leaked so hose clamps are needed for a more secure seal. There was too much back pressure on the pump and a bleed-off assembly is needed to achieve proper plate flow rate with less back pressure on the pump. High back pressure at low flow causes pump to choke Iteration 2: Test pumping system again (without solar-thermal water heater) Hose clamps solved the minor leaks at the hose fitting in question. Addition of bleed-off assembly before the flow meter allows pump to function properly and provide the correct flow range to the plate Pump functions normally 0.5 gpm water flow or less can be easily provided to plate

15 Review Phase IV: Action Item Review
Team Member Phase IV Contributions MSD II Predicted Contributions Deven Improve/update collector efficiency model. Keep in contact with Dr. Stevens. Ordered parts and updated BOM. BTU/cost optimization, finalize and implement system temperature gain test. Sarah Laid out piping schematic(s) and prepared draft and final designs and helped to develop test plans. Build/diagnose piping system to implement with the solar-thermal water heater. Evan Continue design of support structure. Make final design from preliminary design. Detailed drawings of electrical components. Build structure for the solar-thermal water heater and pumping system. Test structure support to validate weight capacity. Alex Manage risk assessment, and update schedule to include MSD II. Helped develop test plans. Manage risk assessment, test the battery life and the time it takes for the system to heat x gallons of water. Mike Talk to vendors and initiate purchase of pump and flat plate. Helped develop test plans Test the water temperature of the system to make sure the desired temperature is achievable. All

16 Issues & Concerns Pump starts to “choke” .6 GPM
Added Y-Valve to reduce flow to collector without introducing more backpressure to the pump. Plate may be difficult to move around due to length/height and elevator limitations
