GOOD MORNING!
Today, I’ll go over the status of our membership, the new biennial goals for membership, our various membership categories and important tools and resources for your clubs.
I’ll also go over the documents being given to each club President for the upcoming Zonta Year and the Club Reports which are due to District by June 30.

2. ZI Convention: Club Recognition 2016-2018

Let’s start with some great news! At International Convention last July, ZI recognized clubs that had achieved a net membership gain of 16 or more members for the last biennium. Worldwide, there were only 12 clubs that achieved this remarkable goal! I’m delighted to share that of those twelve, two clubs are from District 10! Please join me in congratulating the Zonta Club of Greater East Texas and the Zonta Club of Fredericksburg for their achievement! We should also congratulate the Zonta Club of Brownsville and the Zonta Club of Lafayette for increasing their membership by members in the last biennium!

Also, as you know, at the District level we look at net gain and 90% retention of members. Several of our clubs had net gains last year including 5 in Area 2 and two in Area 1.
And here are the fabulous clubs that had 90% retention last year! Area 1 had 3 clubs, Area 2 had 4 clubs and Area 3 had 2 clubs.
Let’s congratulate these clubs for their success!

4. As many know, our membership numbers have been trending downward since In May 2016, we had 29,677 members. In May 2018, we were down by several hundred members to just over 29,000.
But, the good news is that 14 districts are growing and we had 22 new clubs chartered in the last biennium. Also, since June 1, 2018, five new clubs and one new e-Club have been chartered.
Currently, we have a total of 10 e-Clubs.

5. District 10 has 23 student clubs!

Add 200 new members from scholarship recipients
Have more than 350 Z and Golden Z clubs
District 10 has 23 student clubs!
Here are the ZI Membership Goals. Goal 1 is to have more members on May 31, 2020 than we had on May 31, 2018, so more than 29,172 members. Goal 2 is for Clubs to reach out to beneficiaries of our educational programs with relationship-building and networking activities to increase our membership. And Goal 3 is for Districts to continue to support the chartering of student clubs as relevant service projects so world-wide we’ll have more than 350 Z and Golden Z clubs.
As you can see, we’re doing great in D10!

6. February 2019 Membership Status: 28,293 Members!!
Here’s is some great news!
As of February 28th, we’re up to 28,293 members and getting closer and closer to our goal of more than 29,172.
And we’ve gained 25 new Young Professional Members and 15 new Individual Members since May 31st !

7. Young Professional Membership Category
Targets professionals under the age of 30
Lowers international dues (reduced 50%)
Leaves local dues up to clubs; District 10 dues are the same
Reverts to full membership at age 31 with full ZI dues
YP Category is now part of ZI Bylaws, Article V, Section 2 (b)
On February 28, 2019, we had 332 Young Professional
members!
As a reminder, the Young Professional membership category is for members age 30 and under. The prospective YP Membership form is on the ZI and District 10 websites. International dues for Young Professionals is lowered by 50% (so $44 instead of $88). Also, local clubs decide what they want to charge. Our District 10 fees remain the same. And ZI has now added the Young Professional Membership category to our Bylaws. We have great news about our Young Professional Membership category worldwide. As of February 28, we had 332 members which is up 25 since last May. Also, District 10 has several YP members!

GOAL FOR May 31, 2020:
Here you can see the good news for our District membership. Although we’ve been trending down over the last few years we’re gaining ground. As of March 5th, we had 575 members and we are getting closer to our goal of at least 615 members by May 31, 2020.
I know that’s a goal we can reach and hopefully move beyond!

9. New Individual Membership Category
Members join at the Individual Level
Dues will be ZI only with $3 fee (for US)
For those who can’t participate in club life but wish to show their support for the work of Zonta

Members will be bound by the objects of Zonta
As of February 28, 2019, ZI had 15 Individual Members
As many of you know, at Convention last year, the body approved the new Individual Membership category. This is an effort to promote growth and expansion in the demographic of those who aren’t able to join a club or eClub at this time. Members only pay International dues. The application form, which is on the ZI and District websites, is structured to determine whether the prospective applicant complies with the objects of Zonta.
Great new, we now have 15 individual members!

Now let’s talk about all the tools and resources available to your club and your members to achieve success in recruitment and retention! On the ZI website, these include the Global Membership Drive documents and other resources. At the District level, the Area Directors and myself make up the District Membership Committee and we are your resources to share your successes and tackle your challenges. Also, please visit our District website for many resources available at your fingertips.

11. Global Membership Drive (GMD)-Breakthrough in Engagement and Growth
As many of you know, in April 2017, the Zonta International Membership Committee launched the Global Membership Drive. The main objective of the Global Membership Drive is to reverse the downward trend of our membership numbers. The GMD campaign urges all like-minded individuals to join our membership & ‘Add their Voice to Empower Women’. Zonta International advocates that retention is just as important as recruitment, and we should take care of our members during every step of their membership life cycle.

12. Here is how you find the Membership tools and resources on our ZI website. Once you log onto “My Zonta” then go to Tools and then Membership Tools.
The current tools include the membership presentation at the 2018 Convention, the Global Membership Drive tools and information about the Young Professional Membership category.

13. Membership Life Cycle
Another way to look at membership recruitment and retention is a Membership Life Cycle. Club boards have the task to engage with each member actively during their Zonta Life! New members need information and onboarding support, and mentoring. There is a very good Welcome to Zonta brochure you can order on the website. [SHOW FREDERICKSBURG BROCHURE] Existing members need to feel a part of club activities, friendship, encouragement, and recognition. Very motivated members are encouraged to take a leadership role in Zonta. Even those who leave us may still promote Zonta. Thank them and stay in touch!

14. Happy Club Life
There are many ways to improve retention in clubs. First of all, we should get to know ALL of our members. A mentoring or buddy system is helpful for new members. Celebrate and acknowledge your members achievements in your club and in your community. Consider giving service awards to members. It’s also vital to acknowledge your long-term members for their commitment. Of course, Fun and Fellowship is also very important. In Zonta, we do have a Common Purpose and we always encourage and promote new ideas and ways of working together. It’s very important to show mutual respect and embrace our differences.

15. A new tool for engagement is the Zonta Talks webinar
A new tool for engagement is the Zonta Talks webinar. Zonta Talks turns members from readers and viewers into participants. The intention is to engage all of us with topics relevant to Zonta’s future. Every Zontian world-wide can take part. The start time will be rotated to encourage global participation. Since initiation, we’ve had two Zonta Talks; one regarding retaining members and the second regarding ending child marriage. If you can’t attend the Talks, the audio is loaded onto the ZI website for you to listen to at your leisure.

ZI Criteria for Clubs and Districts to Select a Service Project
ZI Affiliation Policy and Guidelines
Today, I’ll be handing out thumb drives to each Club President. These tools will also be on the District 10 website. This will include the Reports to District and several Resources. The first document to review is the Club Officer’s Report form which you’ll send to District in May in order to provide us with your club’s new President and Treasurer’s contact information. Of the six Reports due to District, as many of you know, the four in Bold are those that are judged. And we’ve included helpful information for selecting a Service Project and the Policy and Guidelines for Affiliations.

DUE DATE: JUNE 30
To be considered for annual award, reports must be received by 6/30.

Submit to Zonta D10 Secretary Judi Hansen:
Importantly, please remember you must submit your six Reports so that they are RECEIVED by our District Secretary Judi by June 30. Also, each Report should be submitted individually as a WORD doc, not as a pdf.

18. Now, let’s go over the recent refresh to our annual Membership Report that we hope this provides clarity.
First, we look at Net Gain which compares the number of members on June 1 last year (2018) to the number of members on May 31 this year (2019). How many members joined your club over the Zonta year?
Second, let’s look at Retention which compares the number of members that renewed this year. That is the difference between the number of members on May 31 to the number of members on June 1 of this year.

19. Another report, as you know, is the Service Report
Another report, as you know, is the Service Report. Also on your thumb drive is this criteria on how to select a new Service Project. Obviously, the project must be aligned with our Mission and Vision.
Also the Project should offer hands-on participation, if possible, in addition to fundraising.
What some of you may not know is that a Service Project may be a “once only” project.
And, importantly, any Partnership needs to be in accordance with the ZI Affiliation Policy and Guidelines.

20. Partnerships
The Zonta International Affiliation Policy and Guidelines help Districts and Clubs select like-minded partners. These Guidelines and Policy are on the thumb drive too.
It’s important to know that our partners must promote women’s human rights and any affiliation should not affect ZI’s nonpartisan and nonsectarian character.
