1 Where does the land end? Tuesday, 30 July 2019

2 Tuesday, 30 July 2019 Where does the UK end? To be able to describe the characteristics of coastal environments To know the characteristics of constructive and destructive waves.

3 Tuesday, 30 July 2019 Discuss with your partner what you think the definition of a coastline is. Coastlines are the boundary between the land and the sea. They are dynamic, changing environments.

4 What creates a coastline?
Tuesday, 30 July 2019 What creates a coastline? Waves are formed by the wind blowing over the sea. Friction with the surface of the water causes ripples to form and these develop into waves. The distance the wind blows across the water is called the fetch. The longer the fetch the more powerful the wave. The highest part of the wave is called the crest and the base of a wave is called the trough. Wave height is the vertical distance from trough to crest whilst wave length is the distance between two wave crests. Make your own copy of the diagram showing the structure of waves. Fetch Powerful Friction Waves Crest Trough Height Length Wind

9 Geogo-ball! One person says a key term and throws it to someone else.
Tuesday, 30 July 2019 Geogo-ball! One person says a key term and throws it to someone else. They say the definition They then say another key term and throw it to someone else to answer. You can sit down if you get it right
