3 What is the PDA? Developed in 2010 Level 7 on SCQF Framework 3 units:
Unit 1 Sport Education: Preparing to support learning Unit 2 Sport Education: Facilitating, enabling and evaluating learning Unit 3 Sport Education in Scotland The PDA in sports education has been designed and developed to provide initial training and support to those who work in sport and sport related areas to facilitate learning and development. First developed in 2010/11 but has continually redeveloped to reflect the changes in learning and use of eportfolio systems. The key objective of this training is to provide learners the opportunity to reflect on and evaluate the way learners facilitate learning sessions. This training will explore how learning principles can be translated and applied in practice (what is to be delivered and how it can be delivered). It will identify and reinforce the ‘soft-skills’ of facilitation. Most significantly it will give learners the opportunity to practice planning and managing learning sessions. This training will provide learners with the skills to be able to review, assess and guide the learner’s progress. The award credits are levelled to the Scottish Credits and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and achieve a credit rating of level 7. The PDA is comprised of 3 units with the following learning outcomes: Unit 1 Sport Education: Preparing to support learning Description Outcome 1 Describe the responsibilities and attributes of an effective sports educator Outcome 2 Describe the skills and knowledge required by a facilitator to create a positive learning environment Outcome 3 Explain the importance of continuous professional development (CPD) in relation to the sports educator role Outcome 4 Plan for the facilitation of sports educator tutoring sessions Unit 2 Sport Education: Facilitating, enabling and evaluating learning Facilitate sports education learning sessions in a designated environment Analyse different facilitation styles in sports education Demonstrate effective use of communication methods for sports educators Review and evaluate the facilitation of the planned sessions Unit 3 Sport Education in Scotland Explain the key requirements to meet regulatory needs for sports educators in Scotland.
