Review your current list of colleges-do you have a range of colleges based on academics and cost?
Your list of potential college should include:
2 probable schools
2 target schools
2 reach schools
Including 1 financial safety
Consider applying to both public and private colleges to offer some financial diversity
Understand the cost difference between public in-state and out-of- state colleges

3. Apply Online Many colleges offer an online college application
Common App, college-specific application etc.
Sometimes colleges waive fees if applying online
Before submitting a college application, investigate if there is a free application (i.e. Plymouth State University’s Panther App)

4. Common App Tips Accepted at nearly 700 colleges
Allows for 1 application to be submitted to multiple colleges
Colleges can require extra supplemental questions/essays
Some colleges no longer require the essay as part of their process
Each college may have their own application fee

5. Essay Brainstorm-Explore ideas for more than one essay prompt
Tell a story- Don’t say you are “helpful”, “organized”, “compassionate”, etc. instead tell a story or anecdote that illustrates you have that quality.
Don’t use slang- Show your personality, but do so using more formal terminology than you would with friends.
Free write- don’t limit your words to start-write down and edit later.
Get feedback-Ask English teachers, and parents.

7. File Your FAFSA
Beside completing college admission applications, you must also apply for financial aid.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Must be completed by all student seeking federal financial aid (grants, loans, work-study)
Available October 1st at
As you complete college applications, be sure to add each school to your FASFA form.
CSS Profile
Roughly 400 hundred colleges require this additional form.
