2. Project background
The aim of the project is to encourage active national participation in the work of the LRTAP-Convention by:
Provide capacity-building at SRI concerning: *Data inventory on emission related activities, *IAM-modelling, by training of GAINS model,
Illustrating the benefits of participation in the work under the Convention for other EECCA countries,
Encouraging the development of the Convention so as to better suit EECCA country requirements
IAM-modelling, by training of GAINS model, thereby providing understanding of the impact analysis behind Convention protocols

3. Project participants
The project is a collaboration project between parties:
IVL in Sweden,
SRI Atmosphera in Russia,
SYKE in Finland,
IIASA (international)
The project is financed by:
- the Environmental Protection Agency in Sweden,
- the Ministry of Environment in Finland,
- the Ministry of Environment in Russia

4. Purpose if this side event
To present our project experiences and gather your national experiences on similar exercises,
To present the availability of IAM models as a tool for scientists to support policy makers, example with the GAINS model
To discuss the possibilities for EECCA to increase participation in the Convention and identify how to remove current obstacles of participation
