2 Nervous System Review Collect Information Analyze Information
Initiate Response Central Nervous System Peripheral Nervous System Brain Spinal Cord

3 Nervous System Review Control center of nervous system
Controls right side of body Controls the left side of the body Branch out from spinal cord Changes in the environment Involuntary response to stimuli Blinking and sneezing Decision on how to respond to stimuli Reflex

4 Nervous System Review Brain Cerebrum Brain Stem Spinal Cord Nerves
Cerebellum

5 Nervous System Review Dendrite Cell Body Nucleus Myelin Sheath Axon
Carries impulse along nerve cell “tail” Contains genetic material for neuron Cell Body Allows signal to transmit quickly down axon Nucleus First part of neuron to receive impulse Houses the nucleus Myelin Sheath Carries messages to the brain Axon Carries messages inside the brain Axon Terminal Carries messages to the body Space between neurons and another neuron or muscle or organ; Synapse Ends of the Axons

6 Nervous System Review Sensory Neuron Inter Neuron Motor Neuron

7 Nervous System Review Cerebellum Controls - Cerebrum Controls -
Brain Stem - coordinates the muscles that you use for action such as running, walking, or playing the piano. It also helps control your balance and maintain posture. It regulates all your thoughts and actions. There are many sections of the cerebrum that control what you hear, smell, how you move, how you think, write, talk and express emotions. involuntary actions such as breathing, heart rate, swallowing and blinking.

8 Nervous System Review Alzheimer’s Disease Multiple Sclerosis Stroke
Cerebral Palsy Parkinson’s Disease Impaired memory, thinking and behavior; sometimes confused with aging Chronic disease of CNS; Caused by destruction of myelin sheath – means impulses (signals) slow down or can’t get through Brain cells die because of lack of oxygen; Brain attack; blood vessels can clog (thrombosis) or burst (hemorrhage) Movement disorder; varies from not being able to walk to being able to move more easily; Degenerative disease characterized by Tremors of the limbs of the body
