9 Chief of State The president is the symbol of our nation. Examples:
Greeting visitors at the White House Giving out awards Think about the kings and queens in a constitutional monarchy.

11 Chief Executive The President is the boss of the executive branch.
Examples: He holds cabinet meetings. Appoints officials to the FBI, CIA, and Supreme Court. Runs Federal Bureaucracy: 2.6 million people

12 Obama appointed Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court

13 Chief Diplomat The President deals with people from other countries.
Examples: He meets with the British Prime Minister to discuss business. He entertains ambassadors from other countries.

15 Commander-in-Chief The President is in charge of the military.
Examples: He decides whether to bomb foreign cities. He can call troops to stop riots.

Examples: He can sign or veto a bill. He can give speeches in Congress to encourage them to pass a certain bill.

The President tries to help the economy and keep America relatively wealthy. Examples: Meets with economic advisors to discuss ways to help unemployment. Cut or raise taxes to help the economy.

23 Chief of the Judicial The President does have some say in the justice system. Examples: He can grant reprieves and pardons. He appoints the Supreme Court justices.
