2 Waking Up And Realizing
Awesome Quote  Waking Up And Realizing It Is A Snow Day

3 Learning Goal Success Criteria
Today we will learn how to name and draw a Alkenes and Alkynes. We will also learn the type of reactions these organic molecules can undergo. Success Criteria I understand the difference between an alkene and alkyne I can name alkenes and alkynes in a variety of different ways. (condensed, structural and line) I can draw alkenes and alkynes in a variety of different methods. (condensed, structural and line) I understand what a functional group is I understand the reactivity of alkenes and alkyne I understand how to write all the different types of addition reactions. (Hydrogenation, Halogenation and Hydration) I understand how to use Markovnikov’s Rule

4 Alkenes & Alkynes Unsaturated hydrocarbon Alkene
A hydrocarbon containing carbon-carbon double or triple bonds. Alkene A hydrocarbon that contains at least one carbon-carbon double bond. They have the general formula of CnH2n Alkyne A hydrocarbon that contains at least one carbon-carbon triple bond. They have the general formula of CnH2n-2 Ethene (C2H4) is the simplest alkene Ethyne (C2H2) is the simplest alkyne

5 Naming Alkenes & Alkynes
Alkenes – End in “ene” Alkynes - End in “yne” Rules Identify the parent chain or ring that contains the multiple bonds. Identify whether the chain or ring that contains a double bond or a triple bond. If the chain has more than one double or triple bond, add a suffix to show the number of multiple bonds (Ex. diene or triene) Number your carbons so that the first carbon involved in a multiple bond has the lowest possible numbers. Number and name any branches using the same rules as alkanes.

6 Practice octa- 2,4,6 -triene 5-ethyl hept -3-yne 4-methyl cyclopent

7 Practice naming 4-methyl hex - 2 -yne 4-bromo-3-methyl cyclohex-1-ene

8 Practice drawing b) 5-methylhepta,-2,4-diene c) 7-bromooct-3-yne
