10 The Battle of Normandy The battle of Normandy or more commonly as D-day lasted from June 6, 1944 to August 19, 1944, and took place along a heavily fortified 50 mile stretch of beach in Frances Normandy region. Britain, The U.S., and Canada fought for the allies and the only axis power in this battle was Germany. Many different types of planes were mobilized to protect the dropships transporting the 156,000 allied powers troops across the canal. The weaponry consisted that was used consisted of handguns like the Colt 1911A1, Thompson M1A1 a submachine gun, and an MG42 machine gun. The Allies won this battle effectively gaining them all of Frances Northern territory and giving them a place to enter Germany and meet the soviets. Back to Room 10

11 The Battle of the Bulge The Battle of the bulge took place in the Ardennes forest and the Belgian city of Antwerp. This battle lasted from December 16, 1944 to January 25, The main players in this battle were the U.S. and Germany there were over 600,000 troops on the U.S. side and near 250,000 fighting for the Germans. The main machinery used was tanks like the Sherman tanks and Tiger tanks. The weapons used in this battle consisted of the Mauser C96 pistol, Sten sub-machine gun, and the M1 carbine semi automatic rifle. The allies won this battle putting a dent of 100,000 troops in the German army. Back to Room 2

12 The Battle of Iwo Jima The battle of Iwo Jima took place on one of Japanese island of Iwo Jima. This battle lasted from February 19, 1945 to March 19, Around 23,000 Japanese army and navy troops and 70,000 U.S. navy and marines were involved in this battle. Since this battle was fought on two different fronts (land and sea) B-29 bombers, tanks and multiple different types of Navy battle ships and air craft carriers were used. The weapons that were used in this battle consisted of Colt .45 pistol, Thompson submachine gun, and flamethrowers. The U.S. won this battle gaining a place were they can have damaged planes stop without having to go all the way back to the marinas. Back to Room 2

13 Battle of Guam The battle of Guam happened on the Orote Peninsula in The battle lasted almost a month from July 21- August 10. This battle was affected by the geography and weather a lot because of the rain and the thick forests. There were a lot of units involved like airplane bombers, artillery, tanks and marines. The U.S. and Japan were the main countries involved in the fight and the U.S. ended up winning this battle. Back to Room 3

The Battle Of The Coral Sea was a very short battle. This battle was only 4 days long in May The battle took place at Port Moresby in New Guinea. One way geography effected this battle is that it was on the sea so they had to use aircraft carriers. The weapons involved were torpedoes, bombs, machine guns, airplanes, cannons and all the soldiers of course manned these weapons and controlled them. The Allied forces won this battle and one main thing about this was that Japan lost major naval power and islands in the Pacific. Back to Room 3

This battle was considered the turning point in the war. The battle happened at the city of Stalingrad which is now Volgograd. The battle lasted from Jul 12, Feb 2, The countries involved in this battle were Russia and Germany there were many guns and tanks, bomber planes, lots of soldiers and vehicles. Back to Room 3
