1 What you need to know…. Information from SQA for parents supporting their children through the senior phase – S4 to S6

2 What to expect From S4 your child will study for National Qualifications – starting with the subjects that they choose towards the end of S3 Their courses might include an exam at the end of S4 as well as coursework. Teachers will keep your child informed of when this coursework is due

3 Qualifications There are different qualification options to choose from It’s important that your child is placed at the right level for their learning Speak with your child’s teachers as they are best placed to advise you on what level your child should be studying at

4 Study support SQA has study tools that are free for your child to use:
Past papers Study planner & timetable apps Ask ‘Alexa’ when their exam is due to take place They can visit for more information

5 Know the rules If your child is studying National Qualifications, make sure they read the Your Coursework and Your Exams booklets These include the rules for submitting their coursework and sitting their exams

6 MySQA - no need to wait Not going to be at home for results day? Encourage your child to sign up to MySQA so that they receive their results by text and/or from 8am onwards on results day MySQA also enables them to view all of their SQA qualifications online – which is helpful if they ever lose their certificate! 7 The unexpected! SQA has services that can support your child during their exams and after they’ve received their results. Please speak with the school if you think your child is affected by any of the following: Exceptional Circumstances: Before and during exam Unable to attend their exam Exam performance affected due to an unplanned, exceptional circumstance Post-results Services: After results day Concern that their grade is incorrect For more information visit

8 Assessment Arrangements
If your child is disabled, and/or has been identified as having additional support needs, please speak to the school as soon as possible. SQA has arrangements in place to enable your child to do their assessment without compromising on its integrity. Your child’s school will inform SQA as appropriate. For more information visit
