1 1st Day Lecture

2 ISSB Introduction Inter Services Selection Board(ISSB)is that institution which hold test and interview and recommend candidates for the official post in the three forces (Army,Navy,Airforce).Final selection for training is based on merit and number of posts. The offices of ISSB are at Kohat Cantt, Gujranwala Cantt, and Malir Cantt.ISSB is a recommendation board instead of selecting authority, which provides its recommendations about any candidate to the three forces. Any candidate who has not been recommended by ISSB can never be called for training.

3 Selection Criteria

4 Eligibility Conditions
Gender: Male. Marital Status: Unmarried (Married serving personnel of the Armed Forces over 20 years of age are eligible). Nationality : Citizens of Pakistan and domicile holders of Azad Kashmir / Gilgit-Baltistan. Upon final selection candidates with dual nationality will have to surrender nationalities other than Pakistani. Physical Standards: (1) Minimum Height- 5’- 4“ (162.5 cm). (2) Weight As per the Body Mass Index.

5 Education: (a) Minimum 60 % marks in FA/FSc and equivalent.
(b) Candidates who have passed Part-1 of Intermediate Examination with minimum 60% marks and have appeared/appearing in Supplementary of Part II/Final Examination can also apply on “Hope Certificate” by the Head of the institutions.  (c) A level candidates with 3Cs (aggregate 60% marks) are eligible without seeking equivalence certificate as applicable in case of FA / FSc. (d) Relaxation of Marks - FA / FSc. Minimum 55 percent marks for the candidates with domicile Balolchistan, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan, District Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Tehsil Bala Kot (Kaghan, Naran) of District Mansehra in KPK, Tharparker and Tehsil Umer Kot in Sind, District Rajanpur, Area of Cholistan Desert, Drawer Fort, Salamsar, Mojgarh and Dingarh of Punjab, who have been actually studying in same areas.

6 Ineligibility Conditions
a. "Not Recommended" twice by ISSB/GHQ Selection & Review Board. b..Declared medically unfit by Military Hospital/ Appeal Medical Board. c. Enrolled cadets and recruits withdrawn/dismissed/discharged from Armed Forces (Army, Navy & Air Force) training academies/institutions on the grounds of discipline, character, medical, inefficiency, weak profile, or declared unsuitable. d. An individual dismissed/removed from any other government service. e. Convicted by a Court of Law for an offence involving moral turpitude.

There is a four day selection programmed arranged at ISSB.Which is as follow: 1) Reporting day 2) First day 3) Second day 4) Third day 5) Fourth day

8 Reporting Day The candidate whom call letter are sent, are to report at ISSB.There are reasonable arrangements for taking them from the station or the bus stands to ISSB, their documents are rechecked. They are allotted individual chest number and they are photographed with those chest numbers. They are directed about residence and other essentials for example edibles. In the evening various forms are got filled by them. In those forms basic information for example their father’s name, residential address, particular about their siblings, how they reached the ISSB and many other information are asked. In one of the forms some unforgettable incident is also got written. So, reporting day consist of following schedule: i) Reception ii) Documents checking iii) Allotment of chest number iv) Candidates are photographed v) Completion of forms vi) Writing of unforgettable incident

9 1st Day First day is also called Psychologist’s Day. On
this day basic test starts. These tests consist of : Intelligence tests And Personality tests

10 Intelligence tests includes
a) Verbal tests b) Non verbal tests

11 Verbal intelligence tests includes:
Analogy tests Alphabetical problems Letter series Word building Word formation Jumbled words Coding and decoding Word relationship Discrimination (to find the odd one) Intellectual functions (Alphabetical arrangement) Arithmetical number series Arithmetical problems Arithmetical reasoning (puzzles) Problem solving Direction analysis Judgment Ideas and symbol relationship

12 Non verbal tests includes
Analogies Classification Series Pattern completion Mechanical aptitude tests

13 Personality tests includes
Self description Sentence completion test Word association test (WAT) Story writing test or Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) Story completion test

14 2nd Day a) Group discussions b) Group planning
Second day is called GTO’S day or Group Testing Officer Day. All the candidates are divided into small groups. Each group is overlooked and observed by Group Testing Officer. Schedule of 2nd day is as follows: a) Group discussions b) Group planning c) Progressive group task d) Semi or half group task e) Interview

15 3rd Day Third day is also called GTO’s day.On the
third day remaining group task and individual obstacles are arranged. Schedule of third day is as follows: a) Individual obstacles b) Command task c) Final group task d) Mutual assessment

16 4th Day On this no test is held but the selectors hold
conference so that the able candidates are finally selected. Schedule for fourth day is as follows: a) Conference b) Re-interview (if required) c) Payment of TA/DA d) Departure
