3 What is GLD? GLD = Good Level of Development
Statutory requirement to be carried out in the final term of Reception Children will be assessed against the Early Learning Goals in the Prime areas (Listening and Attention, Understanding, Speaking, Moving and Handling, Health and Self Care, Self-confidence and Self Awareness, Managing Feelings and Behaviour, Making Relationship) and Reading, Writing, Number and Space Shape and Measure. Children will be assessed as emerging, expected or exceeding for each ELG. This information is reported to the Local authority and you will receive this information as part of your child’s end of year report. Schools can be externally moderated to ensure these judgements are accurate.

14 Literacy– Reading EYFS – Curriculum Content
At the end of Reception children will be able to:- Read some common irregular words – I, the, no, go, she, he, you, said, was, be, like, what. Use their phonic knowledge to decode real and alien words and read them aloud accurately – can, sheep, zoat, forg, chip, Understand and identify rhyming words eg cat, mat, sat hen, pen, den Read and understand simple sentences. To talk about and answer questions in relation to what they have read. Start to predict what might happen next in a story they have read or heard. Literacy– Reading

15 At the end of Reception children should be secure at Phase 4.
Phonics At the end of Reception children should be secure at Phase 4. During the year they will be securing Phase 2/3 ch, sh, th, oo, ar, ee, ai, igh, ng, er, ow, oa, or, ear, air Phase 4 – consolidates the application of Phase 3 in more complex words. Eg sandwich, rainbow, flower, chopper, float They will need to successfully pass their end of year phonics screen.

16 Literacy- Writing EYFS – Curriculum Content
At the end of Reception children will be able to:- Write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Start to use capital letters and full stops. Use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways that match their spoken sounds. Spell some common and irregular words accurately – a, I, to, of, are, was, is, the, you, they, be, he, me, she, we, no, go, so, by, love, put, push, pull, full. Able to use a correct pencil grip. Letter formation should be pre cursive.

17 Maths - Number EYFS – Curriculum Content
At the end of Reception children will be able to:- Count reliably with numbers from 1-20. Order and identify numbers from Say which number is 1 more or 1 less that a given number to 20. Use quantities and objects to add and subtract 2 single digit numbers e.g 7+4= = = =0. Count on or back to solve addition and subtraction problems. Double, half and share numbers within 20.

18 Maths – Shape, Space and Measure
EYFS – Curriculum Content At the end of Reception children will be able to:- Use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money. Compare quantities and objects and use this to solve problems. Recognise, create and describe patterns. Explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes (2D and 3D). Use mathematical language to describe shapes (2D and 3D).

19 The remaining curriculum
We also teach Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts and design as part of the specific areas but these are not reported as part of the GLD data.

20 Your turn … Can you match the examples to the correct Early Learning Goal?

21 What can you do at home? Use the resources provided to help support your child’s learning at home. Encourage your child to complete their homework independently. In school children segment to spell using their robot arms and phonetic attempts at spellings are celebrated. Read daily at home – 1 or 2 pages. Play games – Hide words around the house for your child to find. Inform us about any extra curricular activities that children are involved in e.g. gymnastics. Use parent share to create your own observations to share with us at school. We will use this to support our judgements. For example: ‘ Joe made me wash my hands before I cooked tea because he told me germs would make me poorly.’
