1 Factors that affect the outcome of an election
Social Studies Vishnu Boys’ Hindu College

2 Activity: Teacher will read an article from a local newspaper columnist on his views about politics in Trinidad and Tobago. Students will be asked questions on the article.

3 Factors which determine the outcome of elections:
1.Campaign issues. 2.History of performance. 3.Charismatic leaders. 4.No -vote campaign. 5.Violence. 6.Need for change. 7.Ability of funds. 8.Rigging of elections.

4 Activity: Students will be called upon to identify the ways in which citizens can participate in the governance of the country.

5 Role playing: Role playing: The class will be divided into two groups. Each group will represent a political party. From each group, two students from each group will for two minutes each outline aspects of their parties’ manifestoes.

6 Activity: Following the skit,students will be asked to identify aspects of good governance.

7 Closure: Students will be called upon to recap the main aspects of the lesson.

8 Students are to write journal entries relating to today’s lesson.
Homework: Students are to write journal entries relating to today’s lesson.
