3 2. 2011 Do At The Zoo Benefitting Asian Tropics and Bringing the Indian Rhino to Denver Zoo In its 22nd year, the Do At The Zoo annual gala benefit for Denver Zoo is one of Denver's favorite events. In 2010, nearly 2,200 guests enjoyed specialties from more than 40 premier restaurants, danced under the stars at various entertainment areas, and enjoyed after-dusk zoo viewing. On Thursday, June 16, 2011, guests once again will enjoy the zoo chic atmosphere at one of Denvers most anticipated summer gala! After-dusk Zoo Viewing

12 11 Asian countries are in a biodiversity crisis with animals and humans coming into regular conflict. Conservation, research and ecotourism programs will help animals by helping people. Asian elephants, Indian rhinos and other animals continue to decline due to deforestation, poaching, the wildlife trade, human population growth and poverty. The survival of Asian elephants depends on conservation efforts in zooselephants must be managed as a single global population to ensure their survival. Captive elephant populations in North America are not self- sustaining, with few facilities able to manage and hold bull elephants. Educating zoo visitors about Asian animals and the challenges they face in the wild is increasingly important to ensure their long-term survival.
