1 Before we start today… Print: Copy of you CA so far including all methods of data presentation Save on to your area: the class data collation table (if you haven’t done so already) Check: you have your data collection booklet completed and in your folder

2 Data Interpretation LO: To describe, interpret and analyse our findings with respect to our hypothesis

3 The last 3 sections of your CA
Data Interpretation: a description, interpretation and analysis of your results Conclusions: an overall explanation of your findings and decision about whether they prove/disprove your hypothesis Evaluation: we will discuss in 2 weeks time These sections should take 6 hours to complete and total approximately 1200 words

4 High Level of Control “When writing up the final three elements of their investigations, candidates must work independently and complete all work under the formal supervision of a teacher or invigilator. Candidates may not communicate with each other during this time. During this phase of the controlled assessment, candidates may have access to their research folder containing resources. Candidates must not have access to USB devices. Candidates must not have access to secondary sources or the Internet while they are completing this part of the controlled assessment. Candidates may use the spell check and grammar facility on a computer.”

5 What does the mark scheme say?

6 Hypothesis Tourism has had a negative impact on the Brecon Beacons National Park

7 Your data interpretation
Should be approximately 2 pages of continuous writing You need to take each of your data presentation figures and describe what it shows, interpret what it shows with respect to your hypothesis and analyse the degree to which it proves/disproves your hypothesis. You will also attempt to explain the patterns that exist. You can also use data from your booklet, but it really should be presented somewhere in your work. You need to manipulate your data: turn into fractions, percentages, ratios, comparisons etc. In order to access level 3 you need to link your findings from different methods of data presentation together. You need to highlight any anomalies (doesn’t fit the pattern) in your data. It is good to have ‘mini conclusions’ at the end of each paragraph. You must refer to your key terms throughout and put them in bold.

8 An example of how to start a paragraph…
The radar graph shows the level of environmental quality in each of the three study sites. As you can see from the diagram, Brecon Town is most accessible to the local population and therefore has a level of traffic score of -3. This can be compared to Llangorse Lake which is 67% cleaner with a level of traffic score of 1. This proves our hypothesis as tourism has increased the level of pollution in the BBNP and therefore contributed to environmental degradation in the area. Brecon Town is the most visited of the three honeypot sites studied and therefore the negative environmental impacts of tourism were most obvious here. Although the radar graph shows that Pen Y Fan has a level of traffic score of +3, the footpath erosion survey shows that…

9 Over to you… Activity: Complete the table by taking each of your data presentation methods in turn.

10 What now? Starting from tomorrow you have 4 hours to complete your data interpretation section of your controlled assessment. This is due be finished at the end of our lesson on 31/10/16 (Monday after half-term). You can use any work from today and folder resources to help you.
