2. Election of 1824
The Republican party became divided. No one candidate won majority between Jackson (99) and Adams (84). The House selected Adams with the aid of Clay even though Jackson received more votes.

3. What is the spoils system?
Once Jackson won the election of he started to appoint members of his cabinet with friends. This practice of using supporters in place of gov. positions became known as the Spoils System.

4. What is the Great tariff debate?
The South threatened succession over the tariff on imported goods in Jackson stood firm and passed the Force Bill which allowed him to use the US Military to enforce the acts of Congress.
