2 Battle of Saratoga Sept. 19, 1777 Saratoga, NY
Britain wants to separate New England from the other colonies Wanted to control New York This way they could cut off communications and supplies to New England

3 Battle of Saratoga The plan was to go to Albany, NY
BUT the British soldiers never reached Albany because of the battles they had to fight along the way

4 Battle of Saratoga The Continental Army surrounds General Burgoyne’s army (British) The British General and his army COULD NOT break through the lines It was really 2 battles

5 Battle of Saratoga They took place over 2 weeks
During the 2nd battle, General Benedict Arnold (Continental) led a daring attack October 17, the British surrendered (The Patriots won!)
