2. The Proclamation of 1763 Was established at the Appalachian Mountains
Colonists couldn’t settle west of it
Rest of acquired territory from French placed under British military rule.

3. Why the Proclamation?? To ease tensions with Native Americans.
Pontiac’s Rebellion saw the destruction of many British forts in the west.
***Colonists continued to migrate west, representing their lack of respect for British authority.

4. Britain’s Financial Problems
The British were heavily taxed, especially at the end of the French and Indian War, while the Colonists were prospering
England felt it was time for the Colonies to contribute.

5. Sugar and Quartering Acts
Sugar(1764)- reduced the duty on foreign molasses in hopes they would quit smuggling
Quartering(1765)- required colonists to provide for the British troops in the colonies.

6. Stamp Act Crises
1765
Taxed newspapers, legal documents, and most printed materials.
**First time the colonists were taxed for the clear purpose of the British making money.
British had paid the tax since 1694.

7. The Stamp Act Congress
Delegates from 7 colonies met in October of 1765.
Claimed “taxation without representation” was unfair!!
Began petitioning the British Parliament

8. The Sons of Liberty
Most famous group was from Boston, led by Samuel Adams.
They terrorized British leaders and collectors in the colonies, running them out of town.
A boycott of British goods was organized.
