6 Chemical research Find out about your allocated food group 1 lesson research – we will go to library Present info on power point You must find out: 1. Roles in the body? 2. Deficiency diseases and or effects of over consumption 3. What foods is it found in? 4. Where in the digestive system is it digested and absorbed? 5. Describe the Chemistry: Into what it is broken down, to be absorbed/what is it made up from? How does it act or get used in the body? I am looking for some detailed Science clearly explained.

7 Practical information
1 Work in groups of 4/5 as chosen by me. Spell technical words correctly 2 Present detailed information clearly No more than 4 – 6 lines of text per slide 3 You must cite one reference and refer to it in the talk – not just leave reference at the end You must include images 4 You must have spell checked everything You must not read off your slides.

8 Topics Proteins Carbohydrates Vitamin C Fats and oils (lipids)
1 Proteins 2 Carbohydrates 3 Vitamin C 4 Fats and oils (lipids) 5 Calcium and vitamin D 6 Vitamin B Complex 7 Iron and sodium

9 Rubric Marks Function and general info. Qs 1 - 4 Chemistry Q 5 English
Presentational skills (a mark for each) 1 1 aspect of 1 – 4 named Referred to Many spelling and grammar mistakes on slides: at least one per slide Good visual images used 2 Most aspects named Some brief info of relevance Little spoken English or lots of mistakes. Spanglish Images have captions 3 1 aspect described Chemistry of nutrient described Written English less than 10 mistakes At least one reference used and cited in the talk 4 Most aspects described Chemistry of breakdown products described Spoken English strong though with faults Text in slides restricted to 3 – 4 bullets 6 – 8 lines 5 Information for 1 – 4 complete Chemistry of role in body also explained Less than ten faults throughout in spoken and written Students mostly speak to class.

10 Share information with the other groups
PLENARY: make sure you have downloaded or printed these next two slides (10 & 11) and complete them during the talks. 1. What are proteins broken down to in the digestive system – name stages? 2. Which food group is the main source of energy to the body? What is it digested into? 3. What is the role of vitamin C in the body? 4. Name and explain three reasons for us to have fat in our diet? 5. Name a mineral needed for development of our bones and explain where it comes from and the role of a vitamin associated with it. Submit answers in full sentences.

11 Plenary 2 complete this table
Nutrient Use Where it is digested What is is broken down to Results of underuse or over-use Protein Carbohydrate Lipids (fats and oils) Fibre
