Testimonial – using famous people to speak for a candidate Bandwagon – saying something a lot and loud until people start to believe it. Once you start winning some people over, others will join. EX. ”Everyone is doing it, jump on board!” Name Calling – using an unpleasant label or description to harm a person, group, or product Glittering Generalities – using words or vague statement that sound good but have very little meaning - Ex. Repeating words like freedom and patriotism – words that use positive images with which most people in the country identify Plain Folks Appeal – candidates describing themselves as being just plain, hardworking citizens – attempting to appeal to people to show they understand their problems and can solve them Card Stacking – using facts that supports only one side of a candidate Ex. Newspapers only covering a candidate they support
